United Way Summer Meals Program:Taylor Terrace Apartments

Americorps Sacramento , CA 94204

Posted 4 weeks ago

United Way's current Healthy Meals Program sites are providing access to free and nutritious meals. While these sites are successful in meeting this basic need for the youth they normally serve, there is an immediate need for increased access to meals for walk-ins or unaffiliated youth; increased program efficiency by utilizing best practices for meal ordering, youth engagement, program operation and community outreach; increased activities to promote participation and volunteer engagement; and increased awareness of the program for parents and community members.

As a Summer Associate, you will work closely in targeted neighborhoods to help identify strategies to increase participation at summer meal sites. While United Way is the sponsor of this project and will conduct training and provide overall supervision, many partnerships contribute to the success of this program. The majority of time for this position will be spent on site at the location listed above. Candidates must commit to the full ten weeks of service from June 8-August 16, 2020.

VIEW JOBS 3/2/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-05-31T00:00 Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) provides summer meal services to a variety of community locations, like libraries, parks and community centers throughout the summer. Our goal is to provide fresh, quality foods that children enjoy eating. The communities we serve are high need areas, where the majority of the local schools provide free meals to all students during the school year because more that 80% of their families qualify for the Free or Reduced Meal Program. When school is out, many of these children do not have access to fresh, quality foods so it is important to provide continued services to these children. We believe that if enrichment is included more children will participate, getting the nutrients and stimulation needed to thwart summer learning loss. This position will be based out of the EGUSD FNS office however the majority of the time will be spent outside the office working directly with children and the community. As a VISTA Summer Associate you will work in targeted communities to create and implement program enrichment activities, assist with menu development through taste testing and surveying, work to develop systems to better manage food waste, implement a variety of strategies for community outreach, and work with a variety of local partners.
