Job Description

Join our team! Laredo Medical Center's 2C Med Surg Unit provides 34 private patient rooms for specialized care for treating complex medical and surgical patients. The Unit Secretary answers the telephone, takes messages and communicates with other members of the hospital staff, physicians, patients and/or their relatives courteously. Files and post all diagnostic reports and graphs's vital signs on the patients chart after review by the nursing staff. Transcription and order entry of physician's orders appropriately and accordance with LMC policy and procedures.

Position's Purpose and Essential Functions:

The Unit Secretary answers the telephone, takes messages and communicates with other members of the hospital staff, physicians, patients and/or their relatives courteously. Files and post all diagnostic reports and graphs vital signs on the patients chart after review by the nursing staff. Transcription and order entry of physician's orders appropriately and accordance with LMC policy and procedures.

Job Requirement Include:

  • Required: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Required: Ability to type and perform computer data entry.
  • Preferred: Current National Certification as a Health Unit Coordinator.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of Medical Terminology preferred.
  • Preferred: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
