Job Details

The Unit Secretary/Mental Health Worker assists the nursing and medical staff by acting as receptionist, unit liaison, and secretary for the nursing unit. Under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, the US/MHW may give patient care on the Behavioral Health Unit.

They provide psychological supportive services, performs safety checks and assists the patients with activities of daily living. Under supervision of a Registered Nurse, the US/MHW provides a support function to the nurse by coordinating special tasks and assisting where needed. They collaborateswith other members of the patient care team to provide care in accordance with the plan of care. The Unit Secretary/Mental Health Worker supports and contributes to the service excellence mission of Enloe Medical Center and the Behavioral Health Department.

EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:

Minimum:

  • One year experience utilizing clerical, computer and receptionist skills required.

  • One year experience working with acute psychiatric patients OR two years coursework in psychological studies or social work required.

Desired:

  • Degree in Psychology or Social Work desired.

LICENSES / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Current CPR certification required.

  • Type 25 wpm (certificate required within the last three years).

  • Management of assaultive behavior training within one year of hire (department tracking)

SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:

Must demonstrate technical competence in medical record management, phone skills, and electronic equipment (fax/copiers/scanners/video/etc.). Must have medical terminology knowledgde. Must be able to interact professionally and effectively communicate with physicians, staff, patients, and the public.

Must demonstrate technical competence, communication skills and sensitivity for the hospitalized patient and family. Must be able to maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Must be able to follow instructions, work quickly and accurately in a fast paced environment.

Analytical and grammatical skills are necessary to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing. Capable of using computers for a variety of support functions. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are essential. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
