Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, Licensed Practical Nurse or Nursing Supervisor, we are seeking a Unit Secretary PRN to provide basic patient care and assistance with activities of daily living and act as the primary clerical resource for the unit.
Acts as a receptionist, handles incoming and outgoing communication on the nursing unit pleasantly, concisely, and accurately
Completes Birth Certificate for infant with accuracy and according to local and state standards
Assists with admission of patient including orientation to the environment
Takes and reports vital signs under proper supervision
Bathing; routine bed baths, showers, therapeutic baths, Sitz baths, pre-operative bath, shampoo and facial shave
Feeding; prepare patient for meals, passes and picks up trays, assists patients as necessary, passes nourishment's and ice water
Assists with patient hygiene; oral hygiene, perineal care, skin care, decubitus care, shampoo and nail care
Collects specimens for Laboratory; urine, feces, sputum
Gives and removes bedpans and urinals, records I/O
Observes and reports, untoward symptoms such as cyanosis, dyspnea, rash, character of feces, urine and vomit, accidents, complaints, and requests
Receives and sends messages; answers patients' call lights promptly, answers telephone giving name unit and position, relays message to professional nurse
Cleans rolling stock such as wheelchairs, gurneys, IV poles. Places dirty equipment in soiled utility room for CSS to properly clean
Responsible for keeping charts up to date; i.e., lab reports, obtaining new and old records, orders paper supplies weekly, obtains nursing supplies daily
Assist in the coordination of services and supplies for the nursing unit. Maintains adequate inventory control based on appropriate par levels
Makes appointment for patient services in other departments as requested by nursing staff, may make post-discharge clinic or doctor appointments for patients
Maintains patient census log books, completes monthly census, completes bi-weekly variable workloads reports
Terre Haute Regional Hospital is a 278-bed community based medical center serving the areas of Vigo, Sullivan, Knox, Greene, Clay, Owen, Putnam, Parke, Vermillion and Fountain counties in Indiana and Crawford, Clark and Edgar counties in Illinois. Knows accepted medical terms and abbreviations
BLS certification upon hire and must be maintained throughout employment at Terre Haute Regional Hospital
Performs clinical skills after appropriate training, competency assessment
Computer literacy & intermediate experience in all Microsoft Office
Ability to multi-task with prioritizing and meeting deadlines
Ability to work in a fast paced environment while maintaining composure
Associates Degree preferred
