Providence is calling a Per Diem, Evening shift Unit Secretary - Crisis Stabilization Unit to Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Center San Pedro in San Pedro, CA.

In this position you will:

  • Attend nursing station and performs clerical and reception duties.

  • Performs and provides personal secretarial and administrative support services such as preparing correspondence in final form, receiving visitors, scheduling meetings and maintaining files for Behavioral Health.

  • Preparing documents for court and making sure they are signed on time by the appropriate Judge on call.

  • Responsible for Court Log being updated.

Required qualifications for this position include:

  • MAOB I/II required within 30 to 150 days of hire

  • Vocational/Specialized training

  • Completion of medical terminology course or equivalent experience

  • Knowledge of Skills/Office Electronics

  • Knowledge Microsoft Office & Word Processor

  • Knowledge of Outlook

  • Average to good keyboard skills

  • Ability to answer telephones, filing systems, schedule appointments

Preferred qualifications for this position include:

  • Ability to read, produce written and electronic documentation, operate department treatment materials and equipment, and communicate effectively

Demonstrate computer skills to utilize electronic medical record in a time efficient manner

  • Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and nonverbal communication from patients in diverse stages of development, ie. child, adolescent, adult and geriatric.

  • Ability to Multi-task and prioritize

  • Corporate compliance / HIPAA

  • Patient Safety / Personal Safety

  • Computer skills sufficient to utilize medical records

  • Ability to Problem Solving

  • Integrity / Compassion

  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible experience

  • Knowledge of medical terminology specific to the specialty

  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) within 90 days of employment

Approximately 30% Medical Social Work and 70% Behavioral Health focused. In this position you will: * Assesses the treatment needs of behavioral health patients, determines the appropriate level of care and secures patient account reimbursement information by obtaining demographic, insurance and behavioral health clinical information. * Additionally, verifies insurance and secures initial insurance authorization for treatment and ensures required authorizations are in place. Communicates all pertinent collateral clinical information to the on call psychiatrist/physician, the unit charge nurse and the care management team where the respective patient will be placed. The BHIS works collaboratively with multiple disciplines, both internal and external to the organization. * Patients to include: Young, middle and older adults. Designated as a Behavioral Health Clinician to perform 5150 evaluations by the Los Angeles Department of Mental Health (DMH). Licensed Clinical Social workers must follow DMH policies and guidelines. * The BHIS also provides clinical social work interventions including psychosocial assessments and discharge planning to patients who are receiving treatment in the Emergency Department, Medical Acute Inpatient units or a behavioral health unit. Required qualifications for this position include: * Completion of an accredited Master's Program in Social Work. LCSW licensure by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS), required. * Designated as a Behavioral Health Clinician to perform 5150 evaluations within 9 months of hire. All LCSWs must follow the policies and guidelines by Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health for LPS designation and keep their designation in current status, required. * Requires 3-5 years of behavioral health intake experience in a behavioral healthcare setting including assessments and intake and referral functions for acute psychiatry services. * Experience with payers and obtaining authorizations. * Healthcare workplace violence prevention certification within 6 months of hire. * Requires advanced communication skills to communicate effectively with patients, interdisciplinary team physicians and the community. Must be able to fluently speak, read, write and understand English. * Knowledgeable of mental health and substance abuse conditions and their treatment; levels of care/settings within Behavioral Health; crisis and behavior management; case management theories, processes and procedures; and community resources with discharge planning experience. * Requires flexibility and strong self-motivation / organizational skills to prioritize work and make decisions with minimal supervision. * Requires computer experience / literacy as needed for the job. * Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing; physical agility to manage patients; push, pull and lift up to 40 pounds; intermittent sitting, standing, walking, bending and stooping; drug and alcohol free as evidenced by negative results of post-offer, pre-employment urine drug screen, and as defined by the RU-91 form. * Requires a courteous and cooperative service-oriented demeanor. Preferred qualifications for this position include: * A minimum of 2 years of medical social work experience within an inpatient medical care setting or within an emergency department, preferred. * A minimum of 2 years of substance abuse treatment experience within an inpatient or outpatient setting, preferred.
