Job Summary

Greets people at the nurses' station and answers their questions or refers them to appropriate staff members. Transcribes medical orders and maintains patient charts.

Performs unit-based, non-clinical duties related to the admission, discharge and transfer of patients. Organizes activities at the nurses' station. Issues visitor passes per established procedures and answers patient call lights. Accepts patient medications from pharmacy or tube station and gives directly to the charge nurse or assigned nurse.

Job Requirements

Minimum Education Requirement:

High School or equivalent preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology required

Minimum Experience Requirement:

Office or hospital experience preferred. Excellent customer service skills required.

TCU - One year unit secretary in acute care is required. Long term care experience is preferred. Must have knowledge of Title 22 and OBRA regulations.

Minimum License Requirement:

Unit Secretary certification preferred. BLS required.

Psych/ER

• Assaultive Behavior Training Certification that meets AB508 and SB1299 required within 30 days of hire/transfer. New hires that have completed Assaultive Behavior training outside of Emanate Health will be required to complete Emanate Health Work Place Violence online awareness module within 30 days of hire/transfer.

Med/Surg

• Annual 8 hours of Orthopedic Education required for those working at QVH.
