  • Maintains accurate, complete and up-to-date patient records as prescribed by established Emergency Center policies and procedures, obtaining old records, reports, results, dictation, transcription, etc., as instructed.

  • Answers phones, relays calls and/or messages, calls ancillary departments, private physicians, other healthcare facilities, etc., as requested.

  • Coordinate all transport resources by established Emergency Center, CCH and regulatory agency policies, procedures, standards and recommendations or as requested by authorized physicians, management or nurses.

  • Copies and faxes materials as requested, obtains, correlates and processes records and reports as required by established Emergency Center, CCH and regulatory agency policies, procedures, standards and recommendations or as requested by authorized physicians, management, or nurses.

  • Adheres to departmental operating procedures and maintains a cooperative and courteous relationship with co-workers, physicians, volunteers, patients, visitors and allied healthcare professionals.

  • Demonstrates proficiency and accuracy in the use of Computerized Nursing Informatics (information systems) for looking up records.

  • Represents hospital in the community and within the hospital by maintaining confidentiality regarding patients.

  • Maintains adequate quantity of forms, materials and supplies within workstation.

  • Adheres to safety, blood/body fluid policies and procedures.

  • Performs other work-related duties and activities as assigned or requested by his/her immediate supervisor.

  • Ability to read, write and communicate in English and the level of a high school senior.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare informatics systems.

  • Successful completion of medical terminology course with a Grade C or better, or successfully pass medical terminology challenge exam.

  • Minimum six (6) months experience in patient Registration, Admitting, Emergency Center, as a nurse's aide, medical secretary, medical receptionist, or similar position.

Meets all Professional Competency Standards of Emergency Nursing Practice a. Quality of Care - Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of emergency nursing practice in the department b. Collegiality -Engages in activities and behaviors that characterize a professional. d. Ethics - Provides care based on philosophical and ethical concepts. These concepts include reverence for life; respect for the inherent dignity, worth, autonomy, and individuality of each human being; and acknowledgement of the diversity of all people. e. Collaboration - Ensures open and timely communication with emergency patients, significant others and other health care providers through professional collaboration. f. Resource Utilization -Collaborates with other health care providers to deliver patient-centered care in a manner consistent with safe, efficient and cost-effective resource utilization 3. Facilitates the implementation of departmental policies/procedures, mission, goals. 4. May participate in recruitment activities and staff orientation training 5. Participates in the nursing care related to assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients' health and wellness 6. Works 32 hours clinically and 4 hours of on site clinical preparation, i.e. QM, daily staffing assignments, equipment availability, etc. 13. Participates in hospital wide clinical leader networking sessions KNOWLEDGE 1. Knowledge of current nursing practices and protocols 2. Knowledge of clinic policies and procedures SKILLS 1. Skill in appropriate assessment, examination, treatment techniques 2. Skill in dealing effectively with personnel development and issues 3. Skill in QM, medication, infection control, safety and confidentiality policies by effectively role modeling appropriate behavior 4. Skill in leadership and mentoring ABILITIES 1. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public 2. Ability to react calmly and competently in emergency situations 3. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in person, in writing, or by phone * Graduation from an approved nursing education program. Preferred Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related field or enrolled in an accredited program * Current license to practice professional nursing in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts * Current Basic Life Support Certification and Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification * CPI (Crisis Prevention) within 4 months of new position and must renew annually. * Current TNCC and ENPC certifications preferred * Successful passage of CCH's Pharmacology Exam * Three to five years recent experience as a Charge Nurse or Preceptor * Must demonstrate leadership abilities. Must possess good oral and written communication skills * Three to five recent years of progressively responsible emergency center experience * With all qualifications being considered, the final decision as to who is awarded the position will be heavy weighted toward the candidate with the most actual hands on patient care experience Cape Cod Healthcare Inc.
