ATTENDANCE REQUIRED FOR THIS POSITION ARE AS FOLLOWS: Non-rotating 40 hour work week, Monday

  • Friday, 8:00 a.m.

  • 5:00 p.m., or Monday

  • Friday 7:00 a.m.

  • 4:00 p.m. Must be available to work additional hours as needed.

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Foreman and the Gas System Mechanic of the Valve Maintenance crew, performs semi-skilled tasks and labor work involved with the maintenance of underground valves, large volume gas meters and regulator stations. Perform mowing, edging, trimming and cleanup of all Gas Department yard areas.

Perform semi-skilled tasks and common labor work such as pipe fitting, digging, shoveling and painting. Perform maintenance on gas regulator stations including buildings and grounds. Require use of hand tools and small electric power tools.

Assist with the maintenance and operations of all principal gas valves in the City system. Requires using hand held hydraulic lubricating gun, large pipe wrenches weighing up to 30 lbs., small hand tools, and occasionally hand digging to expose valves for repairs. Assist with the installation and maintenance of large volume gas meters.

Help load meters weighing up to 800 lbs on truck; help place meter in position at installation location, including preparing pipe fittings, and assist the welder with line-up. Cleanup, paint, disassembles and reassembles large pipe fittings. Keep crew truck clean and assist with inventory of parts and supplies.

Work with crew to maintain an orderly and clean crew truck, and help check supplies needed to keep the truck fully stocked. May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Position requires a High School diploma or GED with less than one year of experience. A combination of education and pertinent experience may be considered.

A valid driver's license is required. Successful out of state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire.

Application review and the City may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview.

Selected applicants must be able to pass a background investigation and a pre-employment drug test.

Any position that lists a minimum qualification for education level and/or license/certification will require the applicant to provide proof of documentation if selected for hire into the position with the City of Corpus Christi.
