As a Unit Secretary/Assistant with St. Vincent's Health System-AL, you will have the opportunity to perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned surgical area.

Full-time: Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

St. Vincent's East is licensed for 362 beds and is located just 20 minutes from downtown.

It sits between Irondale and Trussville, AL. It is a general medical and surgical facility that offers a variety of programs and services to fit individual, corporate, and community needs. It is the second largest Ascension hospital in the Birmingham area.

It is situated on a hill overlooking the beautiful community of Trussville, AL. This hospital has a suburb feel which appeals to those outlying communities that prefer not to have to drive downtown.

What You Will Do

Perform administrative and clerical duties in support of an assigned clinical area.

  • Greet patients and visitors, answer/screen/route telephone calls, files, distribute mail and performs other general clerical duties.

  • Communicate with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members about patient care according to protocol. Schedule patients for individual appointment and in a timely manner.

  • Provide assistance with programs/software for Physicians/Clinicians through the order entry processes, transfers and discharges. Assemble and maintain patient charts.

  • Coordinate meetings/schedules meetings/rooms with the appropriate person, send notices as requested. Maintain meeting minutes. Enter and maintain timekeeping changes and staff schedules in computer systems.

What You Will Need

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) preferred.

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.

Additional Preferences

Work Experience:

  • At least 6 months medical, clerical front desk experience, Excellent communication skills

  • Must be computer literate

  • Familiar with medical terms, surgical terms is a plus

  • Answering multi phone lines

  • Comfortable speaking with physicians and nursing staff

  • Attention to detail is a must
