The Unit Manager oversees staff, unit operations, and overall workflow, serving as a role model for all team members. Responsibilities include coordinating schedules and staff assignments, participating in performance appraisals, and ensuring adherence to approved Standards of Practice. The Unit Manager fosters cooperative relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers and provides patient care as needed. This clinical practitioner coordinates and implements age-specific patient care, ensuring quality and safe care consistent with the unit's standards. The Unit Manager supports the Unit Director in planning, organizing, directing, delegating, and evaluating to achieve quality patient care outcomes and provides leadership in the practice environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Staff Supervision and Coordination:

    • Supervise staff and oversee unit operations and workflow.
    • Coordinate unit schedules and staff assignments.
    • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Standards of Practice and Personnel Management:

    • Ensure staff meets approved Standards of Practice.
    • Manage assigned personnel and unit activities.
    • Promote cooperative working relationships with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Patient Care and Clinical Practice:

    • Provide patient care as needed.
    • Coordinate and implement patient care specific to the age of the patient population served on the assigned units.
    • Ensure quality care is provided in an efficient and safe manner consistent with the unit's standard of care.
  • Support and Leadership:

    • Assist the Unit Director in planning, organizing, directing, delegating, and evaluating unit activities.
    • Facilitate quality outcomes of patient care.
    • Provide leadership in the practice environment.

Requirements:

  • Education:

    • Attend at least one leadership seminar each year.
    • BS/BSN preferred.
  • Experience:

    • Minimum of two years of experience in the specialty area.
    • Supervisory experience preferred.
    • Excellent customer service skills required.
  • Licenses and Certifications:

    • Valid California RN license.
    • BLS and ACLS certification required.
    • Specialty certification preferred (e.g., CCRN, PCCN, MICN, M/S).
