Job Description

Unit Managers supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility, and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.


  • Assist the DON/ADON in directing day-to-day nursing activities.

  • Ensure that reference material (i.e., PDR'S, Federal and State Regulations, etc.) maintained at the nurses' stations is current.

  • Ensure that all nursing service personnel comply with the procedures set forth in the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.

  • Assist in coordinating nursing with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents' total regimen of care.

  • Meet with the nursing staff, as well as support personnel, in planning the department's services, programs, and activities.

  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.

  • Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.

  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.

  • Develop work assignments, and/or assist in completing and performing such tasks.

  • Inform nursing service personnel of new admissions, their expected time of arrival, room assignment, etc.

  • Ensure that rooms are ready for new admissions.

  • Greet newly admitted residents upon admission. Escort them to their rooms as necessary.

  • Make rounds with physicians as necessary.

  • Provide direct nursing care as necessary.

  • Ensure adequate stock of medications, supplies, equipment, etc., is maintained at all times to meet the needs of residents.

  • Ensure personnel involved in providing care to the resident are aware of the resident's care plan.

Job Requirements


  • Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved LPN/RN program.

  • Must have, as a minimum, 2 year(s) of experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility.

  • Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as an RN or LPN in Massachusetts.

  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.

  • Must possess leadership and supervisory ability and the willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise other personnel.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as the willingness to handle difficult residents.

The ideal candidate is energetic, nonjudgmental, works well in teams and is driven to help patients and families in a time of need.</p><p>Our Crisis Stabilization Unit is an 8 bed unit offering short-term residential stabilization services for individuals with psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders. We are a 24/7 facility that works as a team to lead encouraging groups, connect clients with medication evaluations, and follow through with aftercare plans. Individuals are accepted on a voluntary basis. The average length of stay for the program is three to five calendar days.</p><p>Responsibilities:</p><ul><li><p>Assists in the admitting, discharging and transferring process ensuring that patient safety is addressed, monitor patient valuables during body and belonging search and enter proper data into computer.</p></li><li><p>Provide supportive, respectful, non-judgmental care to adult clients and assist them in meeting goals identified in treatment plans.</p></li><li><p>Assists with Case Management duties, which include one on one client contact each shift, team meetings, collaboration with other service providers and follow up with referral sources.</p></li><li><p>Acts as liaison to all inpatient facilities, case managers, psychiatrists, therapists, clinicians, referred agencies, and families to maintain communications for staff and clients.</p></li><li><p>Participates in treatment team meetings, assists with development of care plans and report any issue for shift directly to the Nurse.</p></li><li><p>Records and reports all observed symptoms, reactions, treatments and changes in the patient's safety status to the Nurse.</p></li><li><p>Demonstrates a positive demeanor that allows for respectful and courteous interaction with all external and internal customers.</p></li><li><p>Work as a team player delivering effective care to clients and promoting continuous harmonious working relationships.</p></li><li><p>Works cooperatively and effectively with others with ability to adapt to changes in the workplace</p></li></ul><p>Qualifications:</p><ul><li><p>Bachelor's degree in psychology or related field required.</p></li><li><p>Effective oral and written communication skills</p></li><li><p>Ability to develop a therapeutic relationship while maintaining professional boundaries.</p></li></ul><p>Full Time 32 hours - Nights</p><p>FLSA Status:</p><p>Non-Exempt</p><p>As a health care organization, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power to care for and protect our patients, our colleagues and our communities.
