JOB PURPOSE:
Responsible for providing managerial oversight of the On Common Ground food service operation which encompasses a made to order burrito concept, El Si' and a "We Proudly Serve" Starbucks.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
Ensures the highest standards of cleanliness and sanitation within the On Common Ground operation and surrounding areas.
Provides enforcement of all health regulations as set forth by the Virginia Department of Health.
Enforces all established standards of menu quality and portion control to ensure product consistency and that proper cost margins are maintained.
Reconciles POS (point of sale) tender amounts and prepares a daily deposit.
Prepares employee schedules to ensure proper operational coverage.
Provides customer service, food preparation, and related functions which contribute to the effectiveness of the operation.
Oversees the operation for detection of common signs of shoplifting, security risks, or safety hazards and taking prompt action to communicate potential problems to management or campus security.
Coordinates the hiring/onboarding of student employees.
Responsible for monitoring student employment budgets.
Ensures proper training for new student employees and regular staff members.
Conducts performance evaluations for all employees.
Plans and coordinates special events and promotions.
Conducts monthly inventory.
Works with the Co-Directors for Dining Services to prepare monthly reports for the Business Office.
Enters new convenience items into the Point-of-Sale System and ensures proper cost margins are maintained.
Performs alternate work assignments in other campus departments during the summer months.
Performs other related duties as may be required.

ORAL OR WRITTEN REQUIREMENTS:
Basic English-language verbal and written skills for understanding, interpretation, and completion of verbal and written assignments. This will require the ability to read recipes, rules/regulations, and to utilize the above reference manuals. Effective verbal communication skills necessary to provide courteous, responsive service to students, employees, and guests. Basic mathematical skills for determination of quantities and related record keeping; skills necessary for verification of cash register functions, balancing of cash registers, and preparation of daily deposits.
Ability to give verbal and written directions to employees. Effective communication skills for conflict resolution and good customer relations.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Tasks require the ability to stand or walk, with very little sitting, and continuously perform essential job functions. Work schedule, approximately 40 hours per week (w/ appropriate breaks). Flexibility to include nights and weekends is required. Overtime may be necessary due to time pressures. Some tasks involve climbing stairs, bending, stooping, kneeling, and lifting approximately 40 pounds, using proper lifting techniques. Frequent exposure to various cleaning chemicals, smoke, spices and odors will occur. This position is designated as Essential Personnel as outlined in the Staff Handbook of Personnel Policies and Procedures.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:
One to two years supervisory experience in a college, commercial or institutional food service operation required. Knowledge and experience in food preparation, inventory, and portion control. Strong leadership abilities and supervisory skills. Effective oral communication skills in providing courteous, responsive service to customers, outside contacts, and employees. Knowledge of current safety, and sanitation regulations. Ability to operate computers and cash registers for daily balancing, recordkeeping, and reports.
MINIMUM EDUCATION:
High school diploma, and post-high school education preferred, or equivalent education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
