PeaceHealth is seeking a Unit Coordinator - Emergency Department for a Part Time, Day position. Hourly compensation starts at $16.48, more depending on experience.

JOB SUMMARY

Provides a variety of unit support functions that contribute to the overall efficient operations of the patient care unit. This position is responsible for preparing, compiling and maintaining patient and operational records in the unit. Performs general secretarial and clerical duties. Acts as a liaison between patient, visitors and caregivers to facilitate communication and resolution of concerns.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Perform a variety of support work for the unit including but not limited to: coordinating all paperwork and records, pre-admission, receiving admitted patients; initiating patient files; taking action on physician orders; process discharges orders, transfers and expirations; prepare hospital statistical records. May process daily charges and charge corrections. May update staffing and communication board. May assist with care coordination such as chaplain service, scheduling diagnostic orders, creating charts and writing thank you notes.

  • Maintain and order unit supplies and equipment. Re-stock items as needed.

  • Manage multiple phone calls and threads of communication. Answer and/or direct inquiries for caregivers and visitors. May call caregivers in from On-Call.

  • Provide clerical support for transcription and medical records maintenance.

  • May orient patients and visitors to room, unit and hospital environment, assist with comfort items in collaboration with other health team members and escalating identified needs to other team members as needed.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

  • Medical terminology and completion of unit secretary/ward clerk course preferred.

  • Post-secondary degree in hospitality management is preferred.

EXPERIENCE/TRAINING:

  • Minimum of six months of clerical and/or secretarial experience preferred.

  • Experience in a medical related environment or completed course for unit secretaries strongly preferred.

  • Computerized health records software experience preferred.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Certified Administrative Professional is preferred.

OTHER SKILLS:

  • Excellent organizational and computer skills, including being proficient in keyboarding and comfortable using MS Office applications.

  • Skills in problem solving

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Sufficient knowledge of English, spelling and math

  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work in a fast paced environment essential

PHSW - PHYSICAL/COGNITIVE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Work requires fairly light physical exertion from 34% to 65% of the time.

  • Ability to lift objects weighing 30 lbs. or less.

  • Work is performed under normal working conditions with adequate lighting and ventilation.

  • Reasonably anticipated exposure to blood and body fluids.

  • Job duties frequently require intense concentration and attention to detail (34-65% of work time).

JOB SUMMARY This position is responsible for performing direct patient care activities within his/her scope of practice under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Physician in the Emergency Department. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS * Assists nursing staff and other care team members with patient care:receiving patients by ambulance and from triage; assisting with ambulatory patients; setting up and assisting with procedures; obtaining patient vital signs; dressing or undressing patients; providing treatment supplies when needed; application of sterile dressings; restraint procedures; immobilization of extremities; cast and splint applications; patient transport. * Performs basic patient observation skills and reports significant changes in patient condition to the appropriate team member.Observation of secluded or restrained patients. * Maintain unit supplies by stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs.Assist in keeping patient care areas and equipment clean. * Performs clerical and communication functions to support departmental operations and patient care. * Order entry and results retrieval in the computer system. * Performs other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION: * Graduate of a Certified Nursing Assistant Acute Care program, Medical Assistant program or EMT (Emergency Medical Technician) program*. EXPERIENCE/TRAINING: * Minimum of one year work experience as a Certified or Registered Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant or EMT required. * Prior acute care hospital experience preferred. * Previous leadership/supervisory experience preferred. * Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient's needs. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: * Washington:Current Nursing Assistant certification in the state of Washington or Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant Phlebotomist * Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required at date of hire. OTHER SKILLS: * Completion of ED specific competency based education * Strong communication skills * Critical thinking skills * Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills * Strong customer service skills * Sufficient knowledge of English, spelling and arithmetic to complete and compile reports, make out requisitions, maintain simple records and perform various clerical duties * Proficient computer/keyboarding skills including MS Office applications REGION/LOCATION SPECIFIC NOTES * Washington:If hired prior to October 1, 1997, may qualify for this position with a Registered Nursing Assistant designation from the state of Washington. PHSW: * Requires either Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) plus Medical Assistant - Phlebotomist (MAPWA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) at time of hire. * ED Technician assigned to the ED Seclusion department must obtain phlebotomist (MAPWA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) within 12 months of hire. * ED Technician assigned to the ED Seclusion Department 1 year in-patient psychiatric experience preferred.
