This position is eligible for a $3,000.00 sign on bonus (paid out incrementally, with a work commitment).

Job Summary:

Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Unit Coordinator/Certified Nursing Assistant is to assist the clinical nurse in carrying out direct and indirect patient care activities according to the plan established by the primary nurse. The Coordinator is responsible for maintaining patient records, transcribing and entering orders into the computer system.

She/he maintains an accurate daily patient census for admissions and discharges. Communicates with clinical staff and other departments to facilitate a seamless transition to other levels of care. The incumbent performs duties and tasks in accordance with performance standards established for the job.

The incumbent may have access to highly confidential patient, employee and/or Mercy proprietary information, and must handle & protect the information in accordance with hospital & system policies, HIPAA requirements and the highest level of ethical standards. The incumbent is responsible for reporting all security events, potential events, or other security risks to the organization. The incumbent is responsible for participation in and completion of all patient safety initiatives appropriate to the position, and conducts all job responsibilities according to the Mission and Values of Mercy Hospital.

Requirements:

Current registration on the Maine Registry of Certified Nursing Assistants. BLS certification is required.

A High School Diploma or GED is required. Post-secondary education preferred. Graduate of an approved Maine State Board of Nursing CNA program.

Must be computer literate with keyboarding skills of at least 20 wpm. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Strong interpersonal skills, clear communication and the ability to understand specific instructions.

Judgment and initiative to work independently. Ability to make decisions regarding priority of work.

Provide patient care within the scope of practice under the direction of an RN on assigned unit. Requirements: * Active and good standing Maine CNA License Required . * High school diploma or GED required . * Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, Outlook etc.) * Demonstrated history of exceptional customer service * Medical terminology in 6 months * Must be adaptable in a fast paced, changing environment, possess exemplary customer service skills, and demonstrate consistent use of EMMC's caring behaviors. * Able to complete age specific competencies. * BLS required. * A strong history of teamwork and a positive attitude required. * Must have high level of interpersonal and communication skills and be a demonstrated team player. * Must demonstrate reliability and accountability to team members and patients. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Capacity to concentrate in a busy and often stressful environment. Ability to come in close contact with people. Sitting, and extended periods of standing and walking are required. Stretchers, monitors, pumps are moved several times a day to accommodate patient and equipment transfers. Reaching and stretching may be required at any time. Ability to push and pull heavy computers on wheels; push wheelchairs with 300+ pound patients, frequently lifting 50 pounds without assistance; high volume of stooping, bending, lifting, pulling and twisting. Must be able to stretch, reach, and retrieve equipment from the supply carts of bend to reach equipment supplied below knee level. Must possess upper body strength, agility and lung capacity necessary to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and have the ability to wear protective equipment and to pass fit testing. Portable O2 tanks are lifted from O2 racks to stretchers to accompany patients. Must be able to perform various sensory requirements such as visual and color acuity, speech, smell, touch, manual dexterity, fine motor skills and hearing in order to treat the patient accurately. Use of the electronic medical record requires visual acuity for reading information on computer screens and fine motor skills for keyboarding and use of a mouse. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Fast paced clinical environment. Participation in unit specific and hospital wide activities that promote self and staff development.
