Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Unit Computing Manager for the School of Arts and Sciences (SAS). The Unit Computing Manager (UCM) is responsible for support of a wide range of users in SAS and will take responsibility for primary computer support in assigned departments.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Provides user assistance with hardware, software, operating systems, and Local Area Network (LAN) support issues.
Provides computer system administration, programming, and networking support for a mix of systems, including PC, Mac, and Unix/Linux.
Works with and supports faculty, departmental personnel, and computing staff in various SAS departments.
Coordinates systems and facilitates appropriate communications between the departments and multiple internal and external organizations.
Exhibits excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrates use of tact, discretion and diplomacy while working with a diverse set of constituents.
Position Status Full Time Hours Per Week Daily Work Shift Day Work Arrangement
Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement.
The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree, preferably in computer science or engineering or related field, OR an equivalent combination of education and work.
Two years' experience with client-side computing, specifically the installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of personal computer hardware, software, and LAN issues.
Certifications/Licenses Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Experience in a technical support operation that spans multiple geographic locations, preferably in an educational environment.
Extensive knowledge of Windows and familiarity with Apple and Linux/Unix operating systems.
In-depth familiarity with Windows and Macintosh software and operating systems.
Experience supporting a variety of devices using University provided endpoint management tools (KACE, Microsoft Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT), Microsoft Intune/Endpoint Configuration Manager, Workspace ONE).
Experience supporting user accounts using university provided management tools (Microsoft Remote Server Administration Tools, Microsoft 365).
Experience managing network access, IP addressing, and name resolution (DNS) via a central IPAM system (InfoBlox) leveraging fundamental knowledge of TCP/IP, and Network VLANs.
Experience managing complex computer and research labs and classrooms that incorporate special functions, scientific instrumentation, and audio-visual equipment.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, faculty, and other staff members via face-to-face communication, telephone, email, or other electronic means.
Ability to read and understand directions and help document those directions as they relate to understanding software applications.
Ability to effectively articulate technical concepts, both verbally and in writing, to people in non-technical positions.
Must be able to multitask and prioritize issues based on severity and impact.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
