The Unit Clerk / Secretary / Coordinator provides clerical support, performs unit based medical records duties and coordinates unit needs. Maintains professional behavior when dealing with issues or conflicts, utilizing appropriate resources, as needed. Assists to provide an environment conducive to safety for patients, visitors and employees. The Unit/Clerk/Secretary/Coord will report risks to patient safety to the RN and implement the appropriate precautions.

Job Requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES/REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required

  • Completion of typing test

  • Previous experience with medical terminology or completion of HUC course required

PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to read and write in English

  • Bending and lifting (25 lbs. minimum)

  • Ability to repeatedly twist, squat and stoop

  • Sitting/standing for long periods of time

  • Reaching for and handling charts, reports and supplies

  • On call shift coverage as required by department

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT, AND WORK AIDS USED: * Computer * Telephone * Calculator * Paging system * Facsimile machine * Invasive and non-invasive monitoring devices * Tractions * Restraints * IV regulatory devices * Others specific to area Minimum of 2 years experience acute care setting with critical care experience preferred * All clusters: HWC and verbal de-escalation completion within 30 days of hire and maintain throughout employment. * Must have BLS or ACLS upon hire, and complete and maintain ACLS, PALS and /or NRP upon selection of the respective cluster agreements. * EDUCATION, TRAINING, EXPERIENCE AND LICENSES / REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED * Graduate of an accredited or NLN-approved RN program * Must successfully pass any pre-employment assessment(s). * BLS (or obtained during orientation) and maintain certification throughout employment * Current state nursing license or permit to practice nursing in the State of Texas. * De-escalation training within 90 days of hire; does not require maintaining. * Ongoing compliance with demonstration of clinically pertinent competencies as determined by the facility.
