The Unit Clerk is responsible for performing duties to ensure a smooth flowing operation of the nursing unit under the direction of the Head Nurse or Charge Nurse. This position serves as a liaison between the unit, the staff, auxiliary departments and the public.
Completes Emergency Department log book and charts.
Prepares charts in proper order for filing and sends to Medical Records.
Files test reports on patient charts appropriately.
Retrieves charts from Medical Records as needed.
Completes chart orders for patient admissions, and follows through with admission stat orders.
Records and enters physician orders into systems in a timely manner.
Records patient admissions and deaths as appropriate.
Contacts physicians, labs, x-ray and other departments as necessary.
Responds to calls from physician offices and makes appointments, as requested.
Assists with ordering of supplies at nurse's station.
Maintains and keeps physician on-call board up to date.
Receives and directs patients, patient's family, and visitors in a warm friendly manner.
Interacts and cooperates with coworkers and department members for effective patient care.
Maintains established department policies, procedures, objectives and quality assurance safety, and infection control.
Effectively uses automated systems to perform work assignments.
Performs related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
Experience: Minimum one year related experience
Education: A high school diploma or equivalency required
Licenses / Certifications:
Other: The individual performing this job may reasonably anticipate coming into contact with human blood and other potentially infectious materials.
