Description:

Position Purpose:

The Unit Clerk performs receptionist and secretarial duties in the clinical unit. Serves as a communication liaison in the clinical unit.

What you will Do:

• Assures the medical record is adequately supplied and in proper order.

• Assures the workstation equipment is functioning appropriately, office supplies are adequate (not excessive), and maintains an updated working knowledge of new equipment and technology.

• Transcribes and/or enters written physician orders, completes necessary forms, requisitions, and communication of all orders approved/reviewed by RN.

• Places and maintains manual orders and prints appropriate downtime forms as needed

• Performs duties accurately, recognizing their importance and relationship to patient care.

• Maintains record (inventory) of computers and other equipment for all devices assigned to department/unit. Troubleshoots low-level computer/equipment issues.

• Performs routine maintenance on computers/equipment devices and utilizes appropriate processes/systems to communicate computer/equipment problems/issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High school graduate or GED or equivalent required.

Experience:

Basic computer experience required. Experience in a clerical role preferred.

Special Skills and Competencies:

Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and flexibility to meet department needs. Self-motivated and detail oriented individual able to work with minimum supervision. Completes the following mandatory courses (check all that apply):

• Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Provider-American Heart Association or Professional Rescuer-American Red Cross) prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.

• Must provide proof of Mandatory Reporting for Child and Dependent Adult Abuse training prior to employment or within 6 months of hire and maintain current status per State of Iowa guidelines
