The unit assistant coordinates unit activities in collaboration with the Charge Nurse to assure the safe and efficient operation of the unit. Performs clerical responsibilities related to a specific unit or department. Posts and reconciles department charges. Transcribes physician orders. Maintains accurate and appropriate patient information in the chart. Completes statistics specific to the unit. The unit assistant, under the direction and supervision of the registered nurse is responsible for the delivery of certain elements of patient care, including assisting patients with activities of daily living and maintaining a safe and clean environment. Patient care is provided through the implementation of philosophies, goals and standards of practice of the Department of Nursing and Porter. Completes other duties as assigned.

A Graduate of an accredited High School or GED Program. [Diploma Required]


Maintain Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) Certification.

Previous nursing assistant experience, completion of first semester of clinical courses in an accredited nursing school or completion of hospital nursing assistant course.

Currently licensed in the State of Indiana as a Registered Nurse and Oncology Nurse Certification. Minimum two years related clinical oncology experience. Demonstrates the knowledge, skill, and coordination to provide nursing care and guidance to the cancer patient from screening to survivorship. They will coordinate patient care throughout the continuum in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. They will serve as a clinical resource with expertise in hematology/oncology care management. The Nurse Navigator will serve as a liaison throughout the facility and in the community regarding services provided for this unique patient population. They will provide expert nursing care, which includes: direct clinical practice, consultation, education and research. Education: Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited university or college. [Diploma Required] Certifications: Current IN unencumbered Registered Nurse license.
