Unit Assistant - Emergency Department - 36 Hour Midnight Shift

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction and supervision of the responsible Registered Nurse (RN), performs specific patient care duties to meet safety and comfort needs of the patient. Provides input to assist the RN in planning and implementing patient care. Responds to emergent situations according to established procedures. Recognizes and participates in own continuing education. The Nurse Assistant follows the Henry Ford Health System Team Member Standards of Excellence in all interactions.

Unit Description: The Emergency Department is a 32 bed department with 2 additional trauma rooms. We are a Level 3 trauma center, certification for Stoke and STEMI certified. We see all types of patients including pediatrics.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

• Work experience as a nurse assistant preferred or Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) preferred or are currently enrolled in a nursing program and have successfully completed Fundamentals of Nursing.

• Successful completion of introductory period required to achieve knowledge of policies relative to job duties and patient care unit.

• Visual/hearing/verbal ability required to receive calls, record information.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

• Complete BLS Heartsaver Certification during orientation.
