About the role:

First Shift (6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday

  • Friday) Union Refrigeration Technician in Innovative Bio-Medical Research Facility with Great Benefits. $45.24/hr.

Job Description:

Core responsibilities include being able to work collaboratively with management and various trades throughout the campus to solve problems efficiently and effectively, and address emergencies as they arise. Be the first point-of-contact for all refrigerant matters across campus.

What you'll do:

  • Work with scientific groups and end users on daily and long-term projects

  • Utilize work order system to complete work orders and designated tasks safely and on-time, while implementing appropriate PPE; communicate status to internal team and end users

  • Operate, inspect, service, repair and maintain industrial refrigeration systems to include (but not limited to) replacing compressors, condensers, evaporators and contactors, diagnosing, repairing and retrofitting units.

  • Maintain mission-critical life sciences Clean Storage equipment

  • Run PVC piping for drainage systems; clean strainers and pump down compressors for preventative maintenance

  • Maintain freon systems and other small undercounter appliance systems, including freon evacuation and system recharge

  • Access and resolve PLC (Programable Logic Controller) wiring and peripherals faults, including wiring signal loop, transfer switches and emergency/standby equipment

  • Perform failure analysis on cold box storage equipment failures and discrepancies

  • Perform Preventive Maintenance (PM), repairs, multi-point inspections and calibration on freezers and other cold storage equipment supporting life sciences and scientific operations

  • Support Calibration and service of other assets on site

  • Perform routine maintenance to ensure optimal performance and prevent costly breakdowns

  • Work independently and as part of a team to meet deadlines and exceed expectations

  • Install, start-up and commission temperature control equipment

  • Respond quickly to all scientific cold box/refrigerated scientific systems and freezer equipment issues/failures, escalating to Management, as needed

  • Assist with repairs to building and installed systems to include (but not limited to): refrigeration and plumbing systems, building equipment, roofs, drains, shop, and HVAC

  • Inspect new installations for compliance with building codes and safety laws.

What you'll need:

Candidate will have a combination of education and experience that confer the needed manufacturing, scientific, laboratory and technical skills:

  • Proven experience as a Refrigeration Technician; experience in life science sector a plus.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Visio software.

  • Capable of exercising independent judgment in decision making and execution of duties.

  • Physically able to lift at least 50 lbs. and work from ladders and other off-ground

  • Able to work and fit into tight spaces and areas, as needed

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to efficiently evaluate, prioritize, and adapt to changing project priorities

  • Must have proficient verbal and written communication skills in English, including experience writing procedures and presentation skills

  • Be available via phone and ready to respond to on-site during emergency events and / or provide guidance to team on after-hour emergency scenarios.

  • Be able to collaborative with management to ensure all equipment is maintained and supporting processes are safe for colleagues.

The pay range for this position is subject to an applicable

Collective Bargaining Agreement. The negotiated rate for the Union position is

or $45.24 per hour. Please refer to the Collective Bargaining Agreement regarding pay scale.
