Position Description
A Unified Communications (UC) Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of an organization's telecommunications infrastructure and voice systems applications. This role involves designing, supporting, and implementing voice solutions to maintain optimal voice systems functionality. The UC Engineer will have an in-depth understanding of Voice Systems solutions, Virtualization, Networking, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) voice services, with a willingness to learn other related technologies. The UC Engineer plays a critical role in identifying and resolving voice-related issues promptly, ensuring uninterrupted voice communication flow and collaboration within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Configuration Management: Manage Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) systems configuration and ensure compliance with established standards. Design, implement, and support enterprise-level unified communications solutions covering Avaya VoIP phone system, voicemail, contact center, and Microsoft (MS) Teams audio and video conferencing.
Voice Systems Monitoring: Monitor voice systems performance and health using VoIP system and network monitoring tools. Operate and administer voice network monitoring tools such as Avaya, SolarWinds, NetBox, and Elastic.
Incident Response: Investigate voice infrastructure incidents, outages, or disruptions. Develop business continuity protocols to minimize disruption in business operations in the event of emergency situations or data loss.
Troubleshooting & Support: Troubleshoot issues with voice infrastructure, systems software, and service providers. Manage ticket incidents and requests using the ServiceNow software platform.
Security Compliance: Monitor voice infrastructure and systems security and ensure compliance with established security policies.
Collaboration: Lead projects by collaborating with other team members and project management teams. Participate in cross-functional projects to ensure seamless integration of Unified Communication components.
Performance Optimization: Identify opportunities for voice systems performance improvement. Establish efficiency and efficacy standards within the department. Design and implement highly available, resilient, and fault-tolerant solutions in both on-premise or cloud production environments.
Performance Objectives:
Within your first 30 days:
Focus on learning about the company and your role
Complete all company and department-specific standard operating procedures (SOPs) and trainings
Learn about your team structure and the individuals who are part of it
Discover the systems that are used in the company
Understand the processes that the company follows
Familiarize yourself with the Applied Medical Avaya Phone System tool
Familiarize yourself with the Applied Medical ServiceNow portal
Within 60 days:
Focus on contributing to the company's overall mission and departmental objectives
Develop a good understanding of the people, systems, and processes
Identify gaps in the current processes and systems
Become familiar with our California campuses
Be able to perform moves, adds, and changes in the Applied Medical phone system
Familiarize yourself with current Applied Medical Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure project
Within 90 days to one year:
Use your experience gained in the first 60 days to triage and complete user requests and incidents
Be able to analyze voice traffic going through the Applied Medical phone system and service provider SIP voice trunks
Become familiar with our remote offices UC infrastructure
Have a strong understanding of our UC network topology
Be able to collaborate with other teams to perform Applied Medical Infrastructure project tasks
Position Requirements
This position requires the following skills and attributes:
More than eight years experience in VoIP systems management and infrastructure deployment
More than eight years experience in voice vendor and service provider management
Strong understanding of Networking Concepts
Preferred
The following is skills and attributes are preferred:
Knowledge of MS Teams Phone System and Direct Routing solutions with Avaya or Cisco VoIP systems
Experience performing integration of an on-prem VoIP system with a Hybrid and Cloud VoIP system
Experience managing and implementing Avaya, Cisco, MS Teams, and Ring Central systems
