Position Overview: The Psychiatrist, in close collaboration with the Lead Clinician(s) and AVP of Unidos Por Un Sueno (US) Program, will ensure that the residents in the US program are provided with the appropriate mental health services to ensure the minor's mental and emotional stability in the program.

  • Is responsible for the initial psychiatric evaluations of any minors in need; prescribing psychotropic drugs in accordance with the policies and procedures of Psychiatry Department; retains responsibility for continuous follow-up of each case and required testing.

  • Assists the clinical and case management team in developing a treatment plan for the minor.

  • Interpret the assessment plan and clinical formulation to the treatment team in the US Program.

  • Participates in monthly program meeting and staff trainings.

  • In crisis treatment situations, ascertains whether or not a minor needs psychiatric hospitalization or other type of special psychiatric treatment and coordinates such special treatment plan with the community hospital or agency.

  • Conducts in-service training programs for clinical, case management, and youth specialist staff working with children/adolescents and their mental health needs.

  • Knowledge of the content of the ORR/DUCO Policy and Procedures Manual, particularly as it relates to the requirements of the William Wilberforce Trafficking Victims Protection Reauthorization Act of 2009 (TVPRA) on Safety and Sustainability Assessments for Unaccompanied Children.

  • Position Qualifications:

  • Required licensure as a psychiatrist in New York State.

  • Knowledge in Child Development, Psychiatric Assessment and Psychopharmacotherapy.

  • Fluent in English and Spanish.

  • Ability to manage and promote a therapeutic environment, taking into account the varying clinical needs of each UC.

  • Excellent oral and written skills.

  • Valid New York State Drivers license.

  • Proficient computer skills.

  • Knowledge of ORR/DUCO Policy and Procedure Manual.

VIEW JOBS 3/4/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-02T00:00 Position Specific Duties/Responsibilities: Clinical: * Coordinate Intake Interviews; participate in the assessment of the unaccompanied children (UC's) suitability for placement and assure a well coordinated admission for each new resident. * Develop Individual Service Plans (ISP) and 30 day Reviews and Updates. * Participate in Weekly Team Meetings; implement on-going review of youth's treatment goals. * Utilize clinical skills in daily interaction with youth on an individual, family, or group basis and through team meetings guide and monitor the quality of the services being provided to youth during their stay. * Present a clear and clinically well formulated view of the youth at case conferences, which will assist in decision-making regarding treatment and permanency for the youth. * Additional Duties/Responsibilities: * Responsible for dealing with behavioral incidents as needed and to ensure that each child's immediate and on-going mental health needs are being met. * Responsible for holding weekly group therapy sessions with all children on caseload in order to address such issues as improving their social skills, assisting them to better manage their behaviors, handle differences in culture and societal norms, and to prepare the youth for discharge. Documentation: * Maintain up-to-date clinical records on all clients * Knowledgeable of the requirements for all assessment and reporting systems (DCS, Federal, State etc.) as well as the documentation of the delivery of services in a format consistent with these rules, regulations, standards and expectations. Position Qualifications: * Must have a Master of Social Work degree (MSW) and two years of post-graduate direct clinical service experience; a Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling or other relevant behavioral science in which clinical training and experience is a program requirement. It is strongly encouraged that Clinician be licensed or licensed eligible in New York State. * Excellent oral and written skills. * Proficient computer skills. * Ability to manage and promote a therapeutic environment, taking into account the varying clinical needs of each child. * Fluent in English and Spanish.
