Job Description
We are seeking an Underwriting Technician, Inland Marine, located in our Alpharetta, GA office. This role is responsible for providing high level technical support to the Underwriter by assisting in evaluating the acceptability of risk and in the development, growth and maintenance of the portfolio while helping to manage client/broker expectations and while adhering to internal service standards. Responsibilities may include: account management, exposure rating, preparation and delivery of quotes, binders, policies, endorsements and service requests to both internal staff and external distribution partners within specific performance standards. This role also performs services including problem solving or research projects requiring insurance and procedural knowledge.
Responsibilities
Assists underwriters with reviewing submissions, rating accounts, drafting quotes, binders, policies and endorsements
Performs underwriting analysis and completes risk reports
Codes, bills, registers, processes and distributes insurance invoices, binders, policies and endorsement within processing standards established by leadership
Prepares all policies in accordance with final binders inclusive of review by underwriting staff
Initiates, completes and sends quote letters to brokers
Rates various lines of business following set workflows and guidelines
Contacts external distribution partners for any required or outstanding underwriting information; pre or post binding as needed to underwrite and complete file documentation
Implements and maintains a field service reputation that is recognized as superior in the industry
Provides support for file audits by maintaining files and conducting file reviews, QA/QC as needed
Initiates and completes pricing models
Monitors the in-office underwriting workflow to meet designated timelines established by management
Reviews and analyze facultative reinsurance certificates as determined by management
Assists with the appointment process for new agents
Facilitates event and meeting planning, including providing agendas and key data
Serves as first point of contact for loss control and claims
Returns of calls and e-mails promptly and in all cases, within 24 hours of receipt
Provides back up support to other Underwriting Technicians as necessary
Performs other special projects as assigned
Job Requirements:
3+ years of related insurance experience as a technical/underwriting assistant
Knowledge of and willingness to work as a team, supporting internal and external customers
Ability and willingness to learn and understand terminology, coverages and appetite for specific industry groups and customers
Ability to identify problems and provide solutions
Strong written and oral communication skills
Microsoft Office - Proficiency in PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, NitroPro & ImageRight
Able to multi-task while demonstrating attention to detail
