An Underwriting Technician will handle all day-to-day administrative duties for the underwriting team, including data entry, issuing debit notes, document management, policy issuance, and other record keeping as-needed. This position is very important for the team to execute well and requires attention to detail. In addition to internal administrative duties, the UT will also be communicating with our brokers/clients, and as such, will show an ability to represent the Company and team strongly in the market. Candidates are expected to work effectively in a team environment, learn from others, and execute on provided instructions.
How you will create an impact:
Operational Excellence
Maintain consistent best practices and guidelines to ensure the team execute its plan
Assist Underwriters in carrying out their duties and generally assist in the efficient running and management of the team
Constant communication with Underwriters to ensure completing of written business
Responsible for the accuracy and timely transmission of all necessary binding documentation within deadlines
Ensure that all checklist requirements are met for each bound account
Once bound make account "live" in the Underwriting System
Maintain and load all documents into the Document Management System on a timely basis
Enter endorsements, declarations, lists, quotes, declinatures and promised lines into the System
Make necessary broker calls and or email to ensure completing of those accounts
Maintaining the "not taken up/declined + active" accounts filing system
Master the Underwriting System input and interface
Interaction with brokers as part of the underwriting process
Preparing of marketing materials and presentations
Development and production of monthly ad hoc reports as necessary
Provide assistance to the Operations and Finance department with resolving premium discrepancies and annual audit process with information gathering and requests
Adhere to Risk Management and Sarbanes-Oxley guidelines and escalate any issues to the Operations Manager
Participate and assist with testing and feedback of new systems development
Expense report preparation
Travel arrangements
Assist in ensuring other underwriters with the U.S. team underwrite in accordance with underwriting authority
Ensure accuracy in the administration of the document management and workflow systems, as well as the maintenance of files and records and peer review is carried out in accordance to internal procedures
Ensure that premium entries in the Company's systems are reviewed and accurately maintained in accordance with applicable procedures
Ensure no errors or omissions of risks are entered into the system
Act in accordance with all regulatory standards and principles at all times
Maintain a good understanding of the underwriting philosophy, criteria and risk appetite of the team
Collaborate
Collaboration with Underwriters to prepare procedures to improve the process for the department

What you will need to succeed:
1+ year insurance experience, preferred, but not required
Skills:
Willingness to be flexible, learn on the job, and maintain a can-do attitude
Comfort with analytical tools and technology
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills
Ability to share knowledge with other team members and assist in their development
Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
Organizational and timekeeping skills and a strong sense of attention to detail are essential
The ability to deal effectively and courteously with clients and colleagues, and to exercise discretion and confidentiality in all matters
Education
Bachelor's degree strongly preferred, but not required
For positions based in New York City, the base salary range is $51,000-$70,000 and the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
