Primary Function
Underwriting Resolution Specialist III is responsible for the completion of underwriting discretionary reviews for all business Channels as well as the review of FNMA/FHLMC repurchase demands and FHA indemnification requests. This includes full file review of conventional loans post-initial approval to verify proper qualification and conditioning based on agency guidelines and Newrez policies. Specialist to document each review, identify/record any moderate or significant defects, and communicate results to applicable parties. Specialist will review incoming demand/indemnification requests for any potential rebuttals, working with the Channel and other parties to obtain additional documentation to cure when necessary.
Principal Duties
Develops or utilizes reports to effectively monitor and manage daily discretionary review completion and results
Participates in and/or facilitates resolutions of individual file conflicts
Effectively communicates all defect findings and any required conditions to applicable Underwriting Leader
Maintains and cultivates an effective working relationship with internal and external customers
Develops or utilizes reports to effectively monitor and manage repurchase and indemnification requests
Conducts the review of files submitted for repurchase or indemnification to determine any potential rebuttals or cures
Works with Channel and Operations partners to gather necessary information to cure repurchase or indemnification requests.
Responds to all inquiries in a timely manner as established by company SLAs
Participates in regular department meetings
Participates in leadership meetings as needed
Constantly evaluates the processes for improvement opportunities
Develops and/or works with the training resources to develop training programs to ensure adequate growth and development of associates
Provides quality control responses in a timely manner
Performs other duties and special projects as required

Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of ten (5) years residential mortgage underwriting experience with recent exposure in both government and agency originations
Knowledge of FHA regulations as well as FNMA/FHLMC underwriting guidelines
Knowledge of loan regulatory guidelines
Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Requirements
Demonstrates leadership qualities with the ability to provide vision and inspiration to peers and others
Knowledge of FHA regulations as well as FNMA/FHLMC investor underwriting guidelines
Maintains working knowledge of all NewRez loan programs to ensure loans conform with program requirements through the loan process and to able to answer questions as needed
Working knowledge of lending compliance and regulations
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) programs
Strong organizational skills
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Natural collaborative approach to decision-making
Clear understanding of the implications of customer service
Effective decision-making, customer service, sales, customer support and problem-solving skills
Working knowledge of government and agency requirements as well as investor underwriting guidelines

Expert level underwriting skills as it relates to title, assets, income, credit reports and collateral
