Responsibilities
We have an opportunity for an Underwriting Associate join our Berkley Accident and Health (BAH) team! This role can be based in our offices in: Hamilton, NJ; West Hartford, CT, Kulpsville, PA; or Marlborough, MA.

Key functions include but are not limited to:
Review cases completed by the setup team to verify completeness and accuracy of the Request For Proposal (RFP) entry into our underwriting system according to RFP specifications
Initiate communication with external parties, including TPAs and brokers, to request any missing documentation or on declinations
Ensure folders on the shared network drive contain the entire RFP and that the documents are housed in the appropriate folders for each case
Input both the specific and aggregate claims experience in the underwriting system, paying close attention to any missing information or information that requires compilation from multiple sources
During claim experience input, initiate screening of potential claimants of concern to present to the Underwriter
Using guidance learned from training and mentorship, begin to formulate initial rating recommendations to Underwriter, utilizing the Journal notes in the system
Participate in underwriting review discussions in order to learn how Underwriters draw conclusions and make final risk selections from data presented during the setup and initial review process
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
1-2+ years experience working in the insurance industry with direct experience assisting underwriters
Stop Loss insurance experience (census, contract, claims experience) preferred, but will consider experience and training on a case by case basis
Ability to input data into our underwriting system, including benefits, reinsurance terms and census; use of Excel
A basic skillset in the areas of math and communication
Strong time management skills and self-discipline to effectively manage a large case load volume during peak production cycles
Establish and maintain positive working relationships with all operational areas, management and staff to further the company's mission
