The Underwriting Analyst supports both Regional Accounts (1,000-4,999 lives) and National Accounts (5,000+ lives) business. The functions the Underwriting Analyst supports are pre-sales, renewals, and customer reporting.
Responsibilities:
Presale Support:
Reviews RFP submissions and census for completeness and accuracy. Requests missing information from the underwriter.
Interprets group life, long-term disability, short-term disability, accidental death & dismemberment contracts/booklets to create ratings based on the in-force plan design, to develop manual rates. Highlights any discrepancies while utilizing independent thinking skills to propose alternate plan designs as necessary to closely match plan designs.
Initiates consultative huddle discussion with the Underwriter to gain clarity on any outstanding questions and review proposed plan designs.
Consistently maintains 97% target and above 93% accuracy for delivering ratings by assigned due date.
Inforce/Renewal Support:
Utilizes current census from inforce customers to work up a renewal. Checks for census completeness and applies data integrity elements; escalating when viable census is not received.
Compares renewal census with current premium and experience reporting to identify any discrepancies and notes any concerns.
Reviews current plan, researches, and applies any plan changes from prior renewal.
Reviews experience information and inputs required data into pricing tools to develop formula rate.
Identifies and troubleshoots discrepancies as needed.
Initiates consultative huddle discussion with the Underwriter to gain clarity on any outstanding questions, summarizes the renewal information, highlights areas of concern, and makes recommendation to Underwriter.
Populates Renewal Letter template.
May answer questions; provide/verify information, price plan changes, rates, services, etc.
Qualifications:
BS/BA in Finance, Economics, Business, Accounting, or related field or equivalent experience preferred
Business-Product Knowledge
Internship or 3+ years' work experience
Solid MS Office Knowledge (Microsoft Excel formulas, sorting, v-lookups, pivot tables)
PowerPoint knowledge preferred

Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$44,160 - $66,240
