Reviews and evaluates all assigned risks in the Group lines of business. Independently accepts, modifies, or rejects risks of a routine nature. Determines coverage amounts, premium rates and experience rates on prospective risks, new business submissions, amendments to in-force plans and renewals exercising judgment consistent with established Company, department and supervisory guidelines, manuals and rules.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Within the delegated underwriting authority (up to $250,000 in annual premium), independently performs such underwriting functions as reviewing requests for quotation on new cases, determining premium rates, developing benefit schedules and coverage amounts, underwriting new business submissions, reviewing requests for amendments to in-force plans and developing renewal decisions for risks in accordance with established Group Underwriting Manuals and guidelines.
Independently exercises judgment based on the evaluation of collected case data for the acceptance, modification, or rejection of group underwriting requests on risks within the delegated underwriting authority.
Negotiates with RSO personnel, brokers, and clients to balance their needs within the guidelines of the Group Underwriting department.
Submits for supervisory review and approval all decisions based on the evaluation of collected case data, for acceptance, modification, or rejection of group underwriting requests on risks not within the delegated underwriting authority.
Maintains accurate and adequate file documentation of all underwriting decisions, forms, or correspondence as determined by Company policy or supervisory discretion.
Assists in the coordination of information between all operational areas of the Company for the purpose of installing and/or maintaining a successful Group Insurance Program.
Actively strives to acquire additional group insurance knowledge and develop those analytical skills necessary to foster sound underwriting decisions.
Utilizes the Premium Billing System, PACS, DataMart, FileNet(Imaging), Varicent and other data processing systems as required by department needs.

Education, Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelors Degree required.
Minimum of 1 to 3 years previous relevant underwriting experience required.
Working knowledge of group products for all lines of coverage.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to make decisions with management oversight concerning the acceptability of Group Risks.
Strong mathematical skills and analytical skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to perform detailed and diversified duties including prioritization of high volume/deadline workload.
High level of customer service orientation.
Ability to research and solve problems with management oversight.
Knowledge of personal computer required including Word, Excel, and Windows.
