About the Role:

The Retail Excess Casualty Team of Everest Insurance, a member of the Everest Re Group, Ltd. is looking for a Underwriter to join our NYC office.

  • Underwriting Excess Casualty business

  • Exposure identification for a wide variety of business types

  • Contract analysis

  • Adhering to underwriting rules and guidelines

  • Developing and maintaining relationships with brokers to maintain renewal business via quality service

  • Collaborating with other product lines to provide full product support to the client

  • Start to handle new business overtime or depending on candidates experience level

Work Experience & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or above and/or insurance certifications

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in underwriting or servicing casualty business

  • Strong relationship management skills

  • Excellent analytical, communication, and computer skills

  • Ability to successfully complete multiple tasks concurrently within a fast-paced, team-oriented, working environment

  • Customer-oriented approach

Job Summary: The position encompasses retail management liability insurance underwriting for the Markel Assurance Northeast Region. The focus of the position includes reviewing, analyzing, accepting, and declining risks to ensure profitability for Markel. Communicate with underwriting management and national management liability product line leaders on individual accounts, current and proposed producers, and make recommendations concerning operations, systems and procedures when appropriate. Underwrite and select new business that will produce an underwriting profit. Review submissions and identify exposure and risk from information provided. Review terms, conditions and pricing. Underwrite renewal business and handle related servicing. Implement corrective measures on renewal accounts as needed. Monitor producers for profitability and production. Market products to producers by coordinating marketing plan with regional and national marketing associates. Participate in audits and/or underwriting meetings as required. * Bachelor's degree and 3-5 years of experience in profitable retail management liability underwriting required. * Demonstrated technical knowledge and skills reflective of progression of increasing responsibility. * Must have excellent oral and written communication skills, and skilled presentation aptitude. * Technologically savvy; proficient in Word, Outlook, & Excel. * Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills, * Must be a team player that enjoys a flexible and spontaneous business environment. * Flexible to travel, approximately 25%.
