The University of New Mexico's Emergency Medicine Department is seeking two enthusiastic Undergraduate Research Assistants to join a dynamic team investigating the environmental and health impacts of microplastics. These positions are ideal for candidates looking to gain hands-on experience in environmental science, analytical chemistry, and cellular biology. No prior experience or specialized education beyond high school is required, as comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in the setup and execution of experiments involving microplastic samples from global beach environments.
Learn and apply techniques such as Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Thermogravimetric Analysis (TGA), various microscopy methods, cell culturing, and biological assays.
Handle and prepare samples for analysis, ensuring strict adherence to laboratory protocols.
Participate in the collection and processing of data, maintaining detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
Support the research team in the preparation of scientific papers and presentations.

Minimum Qualifications Preferred Qualifications
