The Department of Communication is dedicated to enhancing understanding of communication processes, institutions, systems, and practices; informing and educating a wide range of constituencies; and fostering communication competencies, all in service to ethical public discourse in a civil society committed to positive social change. The Opportunity

The Undergraduate Program Coordinator (UPC) plays a pivotal role in the Department of Communication, serving as a key point of contact for undergraduate students, faculty advisors, and stakeholders. Reporting to the Administrative Manager and partnering with the Director of Undergraduate Studies (DUS) and CALS Student Services, the UPC administers all aspects of the Undergraduate Program, providing direction, support, and guidance to students and faculty.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Academic Support: Provide comprehensive academic advising to undergraduate students, including guidance on academic requirements, course selection, and extracurricular opportunities. Serve as the primary point of contact for current and prospective undergraduate students, addressing inquiries and providing personalized support.

  • Collaboration and Partnership: Collaborate with the DUS, CALS Student Services, and enrollment representatives to ensure alignment with university enrollment goals and initiatives. Maintain strong collaboration with CALS Student Services, reporting to the Associate Director of Inclusive Academic Advising.

  • Program Administration: Administer all aspects of the Undergraduate Program, including core undergraduate advising, curriculum management, and event coordination. Provide administrative support to the curriculum committee and facilitate resources for faculty advisors.

  • Community Engagement: Foster a sense of belonging and inclusivity within the undergraduate community, creating an environment conducive to academic and personal growth. Develop and coordinate student-focused events such as orientation and graduation to enhance community engagement and support.

  • Record Management: Maintain accurate student and curriculum records, ensuring compliance with university policies and procedures. Utilize technology platforms and systems to manage student information and curriculum data effectively.

  • Event Coordination: Coordinate and organize student-focused events, including orientation sessions, graduation ceremonies, and other related activities. Ensure seamless execution of events by managing logistics, communication, and resource allocation.

This is a full-time (39 hours/week) Contract College position that is based in Ithaca, NY and fully on-site. Typical work hours are 8am-4:30pm Monday through Thursday and 8am-3:30pm on Fridays with occasional weekend and evening hours to support events.

  • Possess excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects, demonstrate flexibility, adapt to changes and provide consistent and accurate information.

  • Utilize a high level of discretion and sound judgment with confidential information.

  • Be personable, flexible, possess excellent organizational and communication skills and take ownership and pride in their work.

  • Experience in an academic environment is preferred.

  • Knowledge of Cornell student systems (Bursar, grades, course enrollments).
