The Undergraduate Nursing Coordinator of Clinical Education (UGCCE) is a 12-month administrative position with the potential for faculty rank. The UGCCE supports the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) programs with primary responsibility to obtain, monitor, and support documentation of clinical placements throughout students' educational experiences. The UGCCE coordinator will coordinate with BSN faculty to align clinical placements within the BSN curriculum. The UGCCE supports the hiring of qualified clinical preceptors in collaboration with the Chief Nurse Administrator/Undergraduate Director and helps to develop and deliver BSN clinical preceptor training and performance feedback documents. The UGCCE may have some teaching responsibilities in areas of expertise or alignment with credentials. An annual performance evaluation will be conducted for professional development and setting goals, including any teaching assignments, in alignment with role, and this will be conducted and reviewed with the Chief Nursing Administrator (CNA).

Examples of Duties

The UGCCE will work collaboratively with the other COHP clinical/experiential leads to drive efficiencies and effectiveness for clinical/experiential education across the college.

Within the School of Nursing BSN programs:

Clinical Preceptors:

  • Provide BSN clinical preceptor education and assist in the orientation, training, and evaluation of BSN clinical preceptors.

  • Monitor and oversee as directed BSN clinical preceptors.

Site Selection:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with clinical sites for the BSN nursing programs.

  • Select clinical learning environments that demonstrate characteristics of sound patient/client management, ethical and professional behavior, and currency with nursing practice.

  • Prioritize clinical site placements at ANCC Magnet facilities, clinical sites that are rated as greater than 3-star ratings for Medicare compare, or which have significant ratio of BSN or higher registered nurse workforce to ensure quality placements.

  • Identify clinical site placements that will maximize students' ability to be placed within a senior practicum within the state of Maine.

  • Maximize available community resources for the clinical education program.

Site Placements:

  • Coordinate student placements within the BSN nursing program and work with course lead BSN faculty to assign students to clinical sites based on student learning needs.

  • Work collaboratively with the Chief Nurse Administrator/Undergraduate Director, course lead faculty and administrative assistants to ensure that all pre-clinical requirements are met by students in a timely manner, including but not limited to immunizations, CPR, background check, and any site-specific requirements using data management systems.

  • Manage applicable database (s) to assist course lead faculty in tracking student clinical experiences.

Site Monitoring and Quality of Clinical Program:

  • Monitor and collect data to inform the BSN program faculty about the quality of clinical placement experiences to inform site selection to meet course learning outcomes.

  • Foster positive relationships with each clinical site and share feedback received from the clinical site with appropriate faculty members.

  • Perform site visits and/or regular meetings to give feedback to clinical preceptors to inform annual evaluation processes.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Work with Administrative Assistants to provide clinical sites with clinical schedules and course materials/information prior to the start of the semester.

  • Participate in required meetings and committees of the SON and College of Health and Pharmacy as determined by the Dean of COHP and Chief Nurse Administrator/Undergraduate Director.

  • Support and collaborate with the BSN faculty in curriculum and assessment processes related to clinical course components as needed.

  • Attend training sessions and meetings and collaborate with the administrative assistant/Chief Nurse Administrator/Undergraduate Director in maintenance of the Centralized Clinical Placement System and other Experiential/Clinical Learning Management Systems (i.e., Exxat, etc.).

  • Maintain currency and help with compliance with CCNE policies, procedures, criteria, and regulations for the BSN clinical education portions of the curriculum.

  • Provide documented records and assessment of the clinical education component (includes clinical education sites, clinical preceptors, etc.).

  • Handle budget-related tasks as directed by the Dean of COHP and Chief Nurse Administrator/Undergraduate Director.

Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) with experience accepted. Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) required for faculty rank consideration.

  • Active unencumbered, unrestricted Registered Nurse license, in good standing with the state board of nursing, required. Multistate Compact License preferred.

  • Two or more years of experience as a registered nurse (RN) with preference for nurse who has participated in education as a nurse preceptor or educator.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Familiarity with Microsoft (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Google platforms, and Learning Management Systems (such as Canvas) and database use and management.
