This opportunity is for new graduate RN's who are currently in their final semester of nursing school or who have graduated within the past 12 months of their anticipated start date and have worked as an RN for less than 6 months. It is expected that candidates will have their North Carolina RN license prior to their start date.

UNC Medical Center invites all new graduate nurses in the community as well as current co-workers to learn more about our New Graduate Nurse Residency Program at our Open House event. You will be able to speak to managers, clinicians, educators, and nurse recruiters and possibly interview on-site and tour nursing units. You'll learn about opportunities in Heart & Vascular, Surgery, Medicine, Oncology, Children's, Women's, Emergency Services and the Operating Rooms (Chapel Hill and Hillsborough locations).

New Graduate Nurses are part of the UNC Medical Center Nurse Residency Program (NRP). This program, which is a full time and benefitted position, begins as a year long program supporting transition from academia to practice for new graduate nurse. The program is layered on top of orientation to provide mentored clinical relationships which support development as a professional nurse.

Graduation from a state-accredited school of professional nursing. If hired after January 6, 2014, must be enrolled in an accredited program within four years of employment, and obtain a Bachelor's degree with a major in Nursing or a Master's degree with a major in Nursing within seven years of employment date.

Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of North Carolina by the day of clinical care. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.

It is expected that candidates will be eligible to practice as an RN in North Carolina prior to their first day of employment. This position is 36 hours per week with day/night and weekend rotation. Self-scheduling to meet the individual and department needs. 6 Bedtower is a 31-bed medicine floor that provides quality acute care for patients with pulmonary and infectious diseases. The unit is equipped with dual channel telemetry and continuous pulse oximetry and cares for patients who are HIV positive, those who have respiratory diseases, and adults with cystic fibrosis. 6 Bed Tower holds the Silver-level designation Beacon Award for Excellence™ from the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses. This designation highlights patient care units that distinguish themselves in every facet of patient care. For patients and families, Beacon designation signifies exceptional care through improved outcomes and satisfaction. For nurses working in Beacon units, the designation means a positive and supportive work environment with greater collaboration between colleagues and leaders, high morale, and lower turnover. Unit Strengths: A friendly, welcoming, compassionate and committed team with many staff members having 5+ years of experience on the unit. This position qualifies for a generous benefit package including PTO accrual up to 230 hours/year. New Graduate Nurses are part of the UNC Medical Center Residency Program (NRP). Must be licensed to practice as a registered nurse in the State of North Carolina by the Board of Nursing prior to start date. Current healthcare provider BLS/CPR certification required.
