Virginia Beach Psychiatric Center (a UHS Facility) is a 100 bed acute care, inpatient psychiatric facility for adults in Virginia Beach, VA. VBPC offers specialty mental health treatment for older adults, chronically mentally ill, and substance abuse/detox programming. VBPC is a state of the art building located in the beautiful Virginia Beach area, just minutes from the ocean.

Position: Utilization Management Case Manager

The Utilization Management Case Manager is primarily responsible for organizing and conducting the managed care process. These duties shall be directed toward supporting the hospital's mission in the pursuit of excellence in care/service and will include, but are not limited to: conducting timely admission and continued stay record reviews with external payers, utilizing approved criteria to make determinations of medical necessity and level of care planning, verifying active treatment by completing internal audit reviews within approved time frames, assisting the treatment team when indicated in the discharge planning process, and acting as a liaison with MD/Clinical Treatment Team and external agencies. The Case Manager will also report authorizations, denials, and documentation concerns, as well as collaborate effectively across departments to minimize denials and faciliate optimal use of hospital resources.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling or a current Virginia RN or LPN license is required.

  • Full licensure in any one of the following disciplines (LMSW, LLP, LPC, LMFT, etc.).

  • A minimum of 2 years of post-graduate related experience in psychiatric or substance abuse treatment desired. Hospital utilization review/utilization management experience preferred

  • Experience in settings that include inpatient or partial hospitalization.

  • Familiarity with managed health care process, medical terminology, experience in case management, discharge planning, and/or utilization review preferred.

  • Familiarity with EPIC/EMR, MIDAS and Windows based applications.
