POSITION SUMMARY The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment, and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. The sonographer maintains a high standard of medical ethics at all times and is self-motivated to increase level of understanding and knowledge of the field, disease and new procedures as they evolve. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Licenses and Certifications Required ARRT(S) or ARDMS registered or registry eligible (required within 2 years when NDMIRTBE license is conditional) NDMIRTBE license or NDMIRTBE Conditional license Current American Heart Association Healthcare provider BLS required within 30 days of hire Educational Requirements RDMS (AB and/or OB/GYN), or ARRT(s) Registered Technologist (required within 2 years when NDMIRTBE license is conditional) RVT optional Will be cross trained into vascular ultrasound if no formal vascular education has been completed Experience Requirements Experience preferred, but not required New graduates welcome to apply Special Skills or Training Requirements Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography program that is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) is preferred Utilizes tele-radiology equipment as needed Utilizes hospital information system and radiology information system as required for charges and proper patient status Performs Ultrasound studies by independently scanning patient part as ordered Provides Radiologist with technologist interpretation
