I. Basic Purpose:
Performs Ultrasound studies of designated anatomical areas as directed according to established practices, protocols and procedures. Assists in daily operation of the department.
II. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Complies with established corporate and departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance methods, and safety codes. Demonstrates compliance with licensing, regulatory and accrediting agency provisions as required.
2.Consistently demonstrates appropriate and professional communication behavior toward patients, customers, and coworkers. Cooperates with Management and peers to promote an environment of teamwork and collaboration.
3.Reviews charts, requisitions and physicians' orders to determine appropriateness of patient examinations. Obtains pertinent patient information; performs patient and family education as needed.
4.Performs ultrasound examinations, utilizing established technique and protocols; assists physicians with interventional and operative ultrasound procedures as required; evaluates image for optimal technical quality.
5.Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis. Communicates any problems or requests for supplies to appropriate supervisor.
6.Maintains an orderly and clean work environment; provides a safe environment for all patients and staff. Monitors patient condition during procedures and obtains assistance when needed. Assists with transport and patient transfer when necessary.
7.Is responsible for direct supervision of Ultrasound student in the assigned area.
8.Transports patients to exam room; prepares and maintains par levels on a daily basis.
9.Assists clerical and image release area as directed. Performs other department related duties as assigned or requested.
10. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings and workshops.
11. Assists clerical and film loan areas as directed. Performs other dept. related duties as assigned or requested. Hangs films in reading areas as requested.
12. Attends meetings on a regular basis as required. Participates in performance improvement activities as required.
13. Maintains annual mandatory education requirements specific to position as mandated by Martin Health System.
14. Performs all other duties as assigned or requested.
III. Minimum Requirements (experience, training, and education):
To effectively fulfill this position, the following requirements must be met:
Successful completion of an accredited program in Ultrasound;
ARDMS registered in either OB or ABD, according to ACR guidelines (for external candidates)--Primary Source Verification through ARDMS.org required. For internal candidates, registry credentialing must be obtained within 1 year of training;
Current acceptable CPR certification required: American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider OR American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer;
Minimum of one year experience as an Ultrasound Technologist preferred, but not necessary.
