SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

Provides leadership and management of clinical operations in the Ultrasonography Department. Supervises and coordinates activities (technical operations, personnel management, quality control and financial management) under the general direction of the Radiology Administrative Director and Radiology Medical Director. Ensures routine maintenance is performed, problems corrected and systems in place to provide a safe, comfortable environment for patient care/service delivery.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:Graduate of an accredited school of Ultrasound. American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Associate's degree preferred.

Experience:Five years experience as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with extensive knowledge in radiology techniques, processes, quality control and radiation safety. Previous experience with developing staff work schedules.

Other Credentials:AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider

Knowledge and Skills:Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to implement and create processes and procedures; thorough knowledge and understanding of radiology examinations; and exceptional interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service and problem solving.

Special Training:Knowledge of various associated clinical equipment for patient monitoring purposes, calibration and monitoring equipment use in Ultrasonography, computer systems, phone, fax, paging system, and HIS/RIS, or PACS systems.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Enforces personnel policies in the department up to and including disciplinary actions. Develops and maintains current section policy/procedure manuals as required by Director and/or Manager.

  • Interviews and recommends hiring, promotion, termination or disciplinary action for related staff, in collaboration with Director Radiology. Develops annual performance evaluations and competencies of the technical staff.

  • Works to build and maintain a strong, productive working rapport between the various sections of the Radiology Department including catscan, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and radiology.

  • Insures customer service standards are maintained in the department at all times including ability to proactively intervene in situations of those not directly involved in assigned area.

  • Demonstrates fiscal responsibility and knowledge about department financial operations. Assists in preparation and administration of departmental operational budget. Monitors and approves Payroll ensuring staff is paid appropriately.

  • Ensures proper maintenance of equipment including arranging service time on all radiology equipment, scheduling repairs or ordering new or replacement items. Responsible for documentation of system downtime according to divisional policies.

    Prepares timely purchase requisitions for supplies and approves requests for supplies under the direction of the director. Monitors supply ordering to ensure adequate inventory levels are maintained.

  • Contributes to development of new programs, staff development, and education. Advises, develops, and implements new or changes in treatment and philosophies into department standards.

  • Provides constructive criticism to technical staff to help develop skills. Serves as mentor and staff resource.

    Influences and motivates behaviors to achieve desired outcomes. Leads by example. Communicates with staff through monthly staff meetings, maintains meeting minutes and provides copies for staff and Director/Manager. Coordinates and oversees all mandatory staff training and maintains appropriate attendance records.

  • Provides leadership and training on all new technologies for professional staff, residents and physicians; provides continuing education opportunities for staff. Participates in performance improvement activities by identifying topics, developing projects and implementing strategies for improvements. Participates in CH performance improvement committees and report to the Manager on any committee findings.

  • Monitors PACS for errors and takes corrective action as necessary. Completes required PACS paperwork on timely basis.

  • Assures that areas functions in accordance with all local, state and federal regulations including certification requirements.

  • Functions as a staff Ultrasonographer as needed and performs all clinical duties consistent with the standards for position.

  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of Ultrasonography principles and theory, anatomy, positioning, and techniques for obtaining optimal imaging studies as demonstrated by exam results. Demonstrates competence in sending images and correcting technologists' errors in PACS.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.
