Under the supervision of the Directors of the Center for Translational Imaging and the Preclinical Imaging Research Laboratory Imaging, the ultrasound technician provides preclinical and research imaging technical support for sonographic imaging. S/he performs ultrasound imaging and image analysis, as well as preclinical ultrasound, especially for cardiac imaging and comprehensive determination of cardiac function parameters. The Ultrasound Technician has additional duties that include but are not limited to:
Provides ultrasound imaging of small animals.
Interacts with users, maintaining the machine when needed.
Calculates the imaging data, keeping an accurate record and image documentation.
Works with PIRL staff for billing and the use of the Private Investigator's account.
Assists with ultrasound training and animal training.
Requirements and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Biology or a related field, or an Associate's Degree and 5 years experience in a veterinary clinic or an animal faculty
Experience in animal handling and small animal anatomy
Verbal and written English skills to clearly and effectively communicate with scientists using correct anatomical, physiological, and radiographic terms when discussing ultrasound imaging
Experience with computers and information database, plus maintaining and effectively organizing records, logbooks, and files containing research data strongly recommended
Ability to train in required non-human research and take required IACUC courses, as well as pass corresponding examinations at the Georgetown University Medical Center
Knowledge and experience with radiographic techniques and equipment a plus
