As a valuable member of the team at Hoags Radiology Department, you will give direct care that supports the mission of the Patient Care Services Division. Being a Hoag Ultrasound Technician means serving our community by using research and evidence-based outcomes and collaborating with members of your team to offer the highest level of care to those who depend on us.
Hoag hospitals and outpatient centers meet the strict requirements set by the DNV NIAHO Accreditation Programs, and our picture archival system allows every study to be reviewed by sub-specialized Radiologists. We utilize 100% digital imaging systems including 64-slice CT, CT-PET fusion, 3T MRI, digital mammography with computer-aided detection (CAD), and high-resolution ultrasound. Our Radiology Department is lead by board certified, fellowship trained, Radiologists; many of whom hold academic appointments at California medical schools, are involved in clinical research projects, and are asked to lecture at local and national conferences.
As an Ultrasound Technician, you will work under the direction of our Technical Supervisor and Medical Director, and support the Radiology Department's mission by performing routine ultrasound procedures, including: abdomen, pelvis, obstetrical/gynecological; thyroid, small parts, extremity, and venous studies.
Other duties may include:
Correctly identifying each patient prior to their procedure.
Verifying physician orders and alerting appropriate staff to any discrepancies prior to performing an exam.
Properly identifying all images to include patient name, MR #, age, DOS, ordering MD, technologist initials and order number with 100% accuracy.
Educating patients and family members pre/post procedure; giving specific instructions based on the age and understanding of the patient/family.
Accurately and consistently providing additional views or images to optimally demonstrate anatomy or pathology, while following established exam protocols.
Performing basic computer and clerical functions as required, including documenting all equipment malfunctions, and performing service recovery.
Using all radiology department equipment and transducers, including: our hospital information system (Affinity), Radiology Information System (RIS), and Picture Archival and Communication System (PACS).

Completion of an American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) approved program or equivalent.
Active registration with ARDMS.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certified.
Good interpersonal and communication skills.
Knowledge of proper body mechanics.
