Zymergen is building an end-to-end system that automates building, testing, and analyzing new microbes to produce commercially relevant molecules. On the computational biology team, software engineers work closely with scientists to create tools for designing those microbes' DNA sequence. A critical part of delivering valuable tools is creating a well-crafted interface. We are growing, and looking to add a new team member excited about designing and building the user interfaces that empower our scientist colleagues.
By bringing your UI/UX experience to the computational biology team, you will help us maintain our diverse blend of engineering and scientific backgrounds. Your passion for a high-quality user experience will help guide our re-imagined interface and your dedication to sound software principles will allow us to maintain and gracefully transition from existing systems.

Which skills will you need
At least 5 years of professional experience, including at least 3 years of user interface experience
BS in Computer Science, an equivalent technical degree, or equivalent work experience
Strong design sense for UX / interaction / visual design
Success with AngularJS and familiarity with other web application frameworks like React, Backbone and Ember
Expertise connecting to backend micro-services to enable your clients
Commitment to software engineering methodologies and tools: e.g. git, Agile, code reviews, testing.
A background in life sciences is a plus, but not essential.
