Responsible for the day-to-day implementation and follow-up management of participants in the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Department. This position requires using adult education principles and an excellent understanding of cardiovascular disease and treatment, pulmonary disease and treatment, risk factor management, exercise physiology, behavior changes, and cardiovascular and respiratory emergency procedures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

Bachelors of Science in Exercise Physiology.

Obtain certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire date.

Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification required within one (1) year of employment.

CPR Certification.

EXPERIENCE:

Internship or prior experience in Cardiac and/or Pulmonary Rehab setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

Master of Science in Exercise Physiology.

Practices in a safe manner that minimizes risk to patients, self, and others. Adheres to hospital and department risk management, safety, and infection control policies.

Demonstrates professional conduct as evidenced by being a positive team member; follows established personnel, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.

Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.

Receives and documents new patient referrals and follows up appropriately.

Accurately assesses BMI and body fat percentage.

Assists in the development and implementation of the patient's plan of care.

Provides exercise counseling on an individual patient basis as needed.

Educates patients/families about disease specific topics (cardiovascular and pulmonary).

Educates patients/families about risk modification (cardiovascular and pulmonary).

Assists in actively marketing and promoting the Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab Programs in the community.

Completes all assignments and job duties in a timely, efficient manner.

Monitors and supervises patient exercise classes.

Documents patient's exercise data with clear and concise charting.

Demonstrates the proper use and setup of exercise equipment including, treadmill, upright bicycle, recumbent bicycle, arm ergometer, nu-step, stair master, and free weights.

Demonstrates the proper use and setup of equipment including, telemetry monitoring system, pulse oximeters, defibrillator, and oxygen delivery systems.

Demonstrates a strong commitment to a high level of positive customer service as evidenced by UHC's complaint management system, associate recognition system, and customer satisfaction measures.

Maintains a good working relationship with departmental staff as well as other department's staff and physicians.

Demonstrates basic computer skills including typing and navigation of required work programs.

HEAVY/HARD WORK: Work requires strength and stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching, standing walking and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+ pounds.

Visual and hearing acuity (with or without correction) must be within normal range.

Patient care is provided in the clinical setting including the Cardiac Rehab Department, nursing units, and/or patient room.

Must be able to work with standard exercise equipment as well as telemetry and pulse oximeter monitors.

Office functions (telephone, fax, copier, computer, TV) are performed by all staff.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Accurately assess manual Blood Pressure.

Accurate Cardiac Rhythm Strip interpretation.

Demonstrates basic computer skills including typing and navigation of required work programs.

Must be able to effectively communicate and monitor the physical environment for patient, visitor, and staff safety.

Must possess ability to make decisions independently.
