Rutgers University Correctional Health Care (UCHC) is seeking a Physician Specialist I for the Mountainview Youth Correctional Facility located in Annandale, New Jersey. Under the direction of the Medical and Health Services Director, the Physician Specialist I is responsible for providing medical services to inmates of the Department of Corrections, which are consistent with community standards of care. This position serves as a liaison for clinical matters with medical providers outside of the system and be available to provide on-call services.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Serves as the Site Medical Director and supervises other Physicians and other healthcare professionals.

  • Reports to the assigned state prison designated hours to examine referred patients.

  • Provides emergency care, routine medical care, preventive medical care and education to patients.

  • Assures implementation and ongoing status of on-site chronic clinics.

  • Refers patients to appropriate Physician consults.

  • Prescribes medications from the formulary for the inmate's healthcare needs.
