UC San Diego, Dept Of Pediatrics: Post-Doctoral Fellow In Genomics And Single Cell Transcriptomics

The University of California San Diego, Department of Pediatrics is seeking a postdoctoral fellow interested in examining the influence of genomics and single cell transcriptomics on the development, severity, and treatment response of childhood lung diseases. The work will be supervised by Dr. Kelan Tantisira, Chief of the Division of Pediatric Respiratory Diseases, but will also include interacting with a highly interdisciplinary team of researchers from UCSD and Rady Children's Hospital.

The current position will focus on the role of circulating and tissue-specific RNA as predictive biomarkers, therapeutic targets, and key network drivers, although the position will include interrogation and integration of multiple other 'omic data types. Our approach entails the study of 'omic' influences both individually and in an integrative manner using analytic techniques that range from traditional statistics to novel statistical, machine learning and network/systems biology approaches.

Initial data queries will focus on established datasets, allowing the successful candidate to progress immediately. Subsequent analyses will focus on de novo data generation, including an NIH-funded study that is generating large, longitudinal, multi-tissue bulk and single-cell RNA-seq datasets. We are seeking highly motivated and analytically capable applicants who have a strong interest in single cell and integrative 'omics analytic approaches and understanding the pathogenesis, mechanisms, and therapeutic responses underlying human disease.

While much of the work will focus on asthma response, queries into other pediatric lung diseases and long-COVID are anticipated. The combination of single cell transcriptomics, integrative genomics and prognostic biomarker identification will permit an unprecedented understanding of the mechanisms and clinical outcomes of human disease will provide a strong foundation for the transition to independent research.
