UACE Pima County Culinary School Program Assistant

The AmeriCorps Program Assistant will observe The Garden Kitchen staff to become familiar with hands-on classes and demonstrations as well as provide support for hands-on cooking classes. Duties will include organizing supplies and equipment, preparing food, cleaning the kitchen, keeping cooking utensils organized for class, set up and breakdown the teaching space before and after classes.

The AmeriCorps Program Assistant will also help to develop a cooking class for children and their parents to attend, in conjunction with The Garden Kitchen staff members, which will include recipe research and testing, and curriculum creation and implementation. The AmeriCorps member will also act as part of the larger The Garden Kitchen team and be included in relevant team activities such as team meetings, gardening hour (every Thursday morning), and training. As such, the AmeriCorps Program Assistant may also be called upon to help with additional team functions such as the South Tucson Community Outreach food distribution and Early Childhood Education events during weeks when the culinary program is in a lull. Member Duties : Development and implementation of The Garden Kitchen's experiential culinary program; Set up & breakdown teaching space before and after classes; Organize & pull equipment for classes; Assist in the preparation of food for classes; Help to develop a cooking class for children and their parents to attend; Clean kitchen & reorganize equipment; Food distribution in partnership with South Tucson; Community Outreach; Assist with Early Childhood events & activities; Attend relevant trainings, activities, and meetings with team. This position is almost exclusively housed within a working commercial kitchen, member will need to be able to lift 30 lbs, stand for lengthy periods of time & withstand hot & humid working conditions.
