Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.
Provide one-to-one, small group, and/or classroom tutoring services of exceptional quality on a walk-in or scheduled basis.
Integrate effective study and learning strategies, added to subject-area instruction, to maximize student potential for academic progress.
Exhibit a positive attitude toward student efforts, and provide consistent feedback to students on progress. Maintain accurate records of individual and group tutoring sessions.
Exhibit highest levels of professionalism, and protect student confidentiality, at all times.
Subjects Tutored:
The successful candidate must have the ability to tutor at least two subjects that The Learning Center offers students.

Computer Networking and computer software
Criminal Justice
Accounting
Spanish
Nursing
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
The successful candidate for the Peer Tutor position must meet the minimum qualifications.
1.Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better for all college level credits.
2.Must have earned a B or better in the subject tutored or other relevant experience.
3.Must have 10 hours or more to devote to tutoring per week
4.Technology core competency skills in Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint, Google Suite.
5.Experience with Canvas required.
6.Experience using Zoom to tutor remotely.
7.Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to model good study habits.
Additional Considerations
Candidate that has taken the course(s) that they wish to tutor in.
A recommendation from the instructor (or other instructor if said instructor has retired) that they took the course with.
