Job Description:

A tutor at the University College will work with University College students, one-on-one or in a small group to develop the student's academic skills and support them in their coursework and assignments.

Provide consistently high quality assistance to all students who request tutoring.

Behave in a professional manner.

Always respect the authority and expertise of the instructor and the right of the student to learn in an academically enriched, positive environment.

Maintain regular attendance, as scheduled, in the University College Tutoring Center.

Additional Functions

Serve on committees.

Respect and maintain confidentiality, parameters of operation, professional protocols, and individual privacy.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a related discipline.

Display a flexible, positive, customer service oriented attitude.

Previous tutoring experience.

Strong written and oral communication skills.

Ability to function independently with a minimum of supervision.

Excellent customer service skills and a student-centered philosophy.

Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate student need.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience with adult learners.

Previous experience tutoring English Language learners.

Tutoring certification.

At the University's discretion, the education and experience prerequisites may be excepted where the candidate can demonstrate, to the satisfaction of the University, an equivalent combination of education and experience specifically preparing the candidate for success in the position.

VIEW JOBS 3/11/2020 12:00:00 AM 2020-06-09T00:00 Job Description: An Adjunct Faculty Member is an individual who serves as an instructor in the University College. Adjunct faculty serve on a semester basis and may be assigned to teach any of the types of courses offered by the School in any of the university's semesters or terms. Such instructors may be members of the general University faculty assigned to other schools/colleges who teach in the University College (based on the provisions contained in the Faculty Contract) or they may be outside individuals not otherwise affiliated with the University. Such outside adjunct faculty members are frequently affiliated with business, industry, government, social/community agencies, other colleges or universities, etc., within the state or region. Hiring disciplines in Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Social and Health Services, Health Care Administration, Paralegal Studies, Industrial Technology, Technology Leadership and Management and Community Development for the academic year. Adjunct faculty who are not currently affiliated with the University are expected to hold graduate degrees, or the equivalent based on professional experiences and credentials. When new Adjunct or Part-Time Faculty members are hired, resumes and transcripts are kept on file with the Dean of University College. Since the quality of UC instruction should be consistent with the quality in the Day School, deans of the respective schools/colleges have the right to review, recommend, and approve faculty assignments in the University College, when adjunct faculty will be teaching courses in areas and subjects represented by such schools/colleges. Adjunct faculty are expected to adhere to the guidelines and provisions contained in the Adjunct Faculty Guide published annually by the University College. Requirements: A minimum of a Master's degree is required.
