Our Mission
Position summary: Tutors will facilitate in-person or online tutoring sessions for students enrolled in Mathematics courses. Tutors may work imbedded in a class and with the general student population in our college math center.
Locations: Main Chattanooga State campus
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Develop a positive and supportive relationship with students needing additional academic assistance in mathematics courses
Promote independent learning of each student participating in tutoring
Provide one-on-one math assistance to students referred or seeking assistance with course content or course completion expectations
Monitor student's learning strategies and provide assistance developing more effective methods of skills-building
Communicate with instructors as needed regarding student progress and areas of concern
Holistic Student Support
Familiarity with holistic support for students outside the classroom. These supports include Admissions and Records, Enrollment Service Center, High School Programs, Recruiting and Orientation, Career Services, Student Support Center, Tutoring Services, Student Conduct, Student Life, Multicultural and International Services, Adult Student Services, and the Center for Access and Disability Services.
Ensure that services and activities promote accessibility and reflect equity-minded practices.
Organizational Culture and Inclusive Practices
Embraces and promotes the College's goals related to organizational culture and belongingness.
Support the Math and Science Division's efforts to utilize best practices in providing equity-minded services and support for students, faculty, and staff.
Position Requirements:
Achieved A's in college level math courses up through Calculus 1 OR advanced knowledge of Statistics
Experience working with students in an academic setting
Ability to work on campus with college students of diverse ethnic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of basic academic skills application and the ability to demonstrate the successful application of various academic skills
Proficiency in basic internet use; ability to learn internet platforms (such as course management and statistical tools) quickly with training
Positive interpersonal skills; a commitment to building constructive relationships with students, faculty, staff and administrators
Work Hours
Monday-Saturday during academic terms
Between 10-27 hours per week, depending on contract
