Responsibilities

Position Summary:

Provide individual and small group tutoring services to Kinder through 6th grade students in our Homework and Afterschool Clubs. The tutor will be responsible for guiding students to improve their academic performance through extended lessons, creative teaching, and interactive materials. Other assistance might include: reviewing class material, discussing written materials, predicting test questions, formulating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems. Our team offers compassionate, motivating assistance to each student with the goal of helping each student reach their academic potential.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • HIgh School Graduate

  • 1-2 years of College courses

  • Strong academic performance in Math, English, and Computer Science.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior tuturing experience with children preferred

  • Membership to a National Tutoring Association

  • Bilingual preferred

VIEW JOBS 10/16/2020 12:00:00 AM 2021-01-14T00:00 ACTIVITY LEADER: HOMEWORK, 4 HOUR QUALIFICATIONS: * High school diploma and passage of Kern High School District proficiency test * Current Activity Supervisor Clearance Certificate and/or criminal background clearance by Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation * Ability to provide remedial and enrichment help to individual and small groups of students in basic skills area * Demonstrated knowledge of, and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing and mathematics or reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate. * Ability to work with children of diverse ethnic, racial, cultural, educational and economic backgrounds REPORTS TO: Administrator as assigned JOB GOAL: To work with individual students or small groups of students on homework relative to improving their language arts and math skills PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: * Works with individual students or small groups of students, in tutorial setting, in order to reinforce learning of basic skills initially introduced by teacher * Assists in developing and implementing special strategies for reinforcing basic skills based on understanding of individual students, their needs, interest and abilities * Works cooperatively with teachers of students assigned to tutorial help * Participates in inservice training programs as needed * Maintains high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students * Performs other related duties as assigned SALARY: $1,474 - $1,789 per month* * (10 month employees: annual salary divided into 11 equal monthly payments) EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the District's "Improvement of Professional Services" handbook, Board Policies and Procedures and consistent with collective bargaining agreements when applicable NEW PROBATIONARY EMPLOYEES AND PERMANENT EMPLOYEES WHO BECOME PROBATIONARY UPON RECLASSIFICATION: A new employee, or a permanent employee who is changed to a new classification, shall serve a probationary period, which shall not exceed one (1) year of duty time exclusive of leaves of absence or other absences. During this probationary period the employee must meet the required standards of performance to be recommended for permanent status in the classification. A probationary classified service employee may be terminated from the probationary classification at any time without cause, without right of appeal or hearing before the Board of Education. Pursuant to Education Code section 45113, a permanent employee who accepts a promotion and fails to complete the probationary period for that promotional position, shall be employed in the classification from which he or she was promoted.
