POSITION SUMMARY:

Operates both a bobtail and tractor-trailer to ship product to customer destinations in local areas of Southern California.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Drive vehicle safely to deliver each shipment in a cost effective manner.

  • Provide assistance to Shipping Dept. with loading or unloading trucks.

  • Load and unload trucks on own as needed.

  • Perform all warehouse functions as needed.

  • Assure loads are balanced and tie down loads to properly secure them.

  • Acquire daily delivery schedule and oversee loading of truck.

  • Research delivery locations and map the routes before leaving facility.

  • Provide customer service support for deliveries.

  • Provide appropriate shipping paperwork.

  • Complete and maintain inspections and log books.

  • Practice good safe driving and comply with all DOT regulations.

  • Other driver and support duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Maintain Class A drivers license and DMV report showing good driving record.

  • Ability to communicate with customers.

  • Maintain very good lines of communication with Dispatcher.

  • Ability to minimize down time between deliveries.

  • Detail oriented with accuracy, follow through and ability to work with minimum supervision.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Minimum four years experience driving a 40 ft. flat bed trailer

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to read, write and speak English.

  • Ability and desire to work in a team-oriented environment.

  • Ability to use personal protective equipment at all times as required.

  • Must be available to work overtime on short notice.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Requires ability to drive, sit, stand, carry materials, stoop, kneel, bend at waist, and climb stairs.

  • Must lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis. Maximum unassisted lift 75 lbs.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles and chemicals.

The noise level in the work environment may be moderate to loud and may require hearing protection.

Safety shoes and eye protection as required for environment.

The position of Bus Driver-Special Students is differentiated from Bus Driver in that the majority of bus operation is on a Class II school bus transporting physically handicapped and/or mentally handicapped students. It is further differentiated in that a demonstrated ability to communicate and relate well with physically handicapped and mentally handicapped students is required. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS · Inspects buses prior to operation in accordance with written rules and regulations. · Perform fueling and maintain prescribed levels of fuel of the bus. · Drives buses over designated routes. · Picks up and discharges students. · Operates a wheelchair lift for entry and exit from bus. · Secures wheelchairs. · Secures physically handicapped students into seats for transport. · Assists students on and off buses and escorts them across streets when necessary. · Maintains prescribed cleanliness levels of the bus. · Prepares and completes required reports. · Performs other tasks as required to safely operate a bus in accordance with laws and district policies. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS · Performs other related duties as assigned. LICENSE AND CERTIFICATE REQUIRED A valid appropriate California Driver's License; valid medical card/certificate and verification of First Aid proficiency as required by State law; and a valid California School Bus Driver's Certificate. Must qualify for insurance coverage by the district insurance carrier.
